Amelia married Joel Stahly on April 5, 1894. The couple were the parents of Edward, Grant, John, May (Sundberg), Mabel (Carpenter), Homer, Clinton, and Anna. Amelia S Stahly was born October 31, 1871, on a farm near Danvers, Illinois, and departed this life at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John Sundberg near Stromsburg, July 17, 1954 at the age of 82 years, 8 months, and 17 days. One of the family of 12 children she lived with her parents, Rev. John and Rose Marie Stahly, during her childhood at Danvers. She attended the north Danvers Mennonite Church. About 1892 she came to Nebraska and worked in hotels in Seward and Milford. She was married to Joel Stahly April 5, 1894, to this union were born eight children. In addition to her husband, who died in 1947, she was preceded in death by two children, Anna in 1908 and Homer in 1918. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. May Sundberg and Mrs. Mabel Carpenter of Stromsburg, four sons, John, and Clinton of Milford, Dr. Edward of Saginaw, Michigan and Dr. Grant of Columbus, Ohio, a brother, Alfred Stahly of Newton, Kansas, ten grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends. Gerald Stahly, a nephew, lived with the family for seven years. Mrs. Stahly was converted at the age of twenty one years under the ministry of Rev. Jacob Hygema. Two years later she and her husband became charter members of the Mennonite Brethren in Christ Church near Milford. She has lived a consistent Christian life always concerned about the spiritual life of her family an d all those she came in contact with. She was a loving mother and faithful wife. As long as she was able she taught a Sunday School class and the lives of her family were enriched by the many guests and ministers whom she welcomed into the home. In 1947 she developed a heart ailment which considerably restricted her activities. She had been living since October 1947, with her daughter, May Sundberg, near Stromsburg. Funeral services were held at the Milford United Missionary Church on Tuesday afternoon. Rev. Charles Gray, officiated with Rev. W. J. Cahill bringing the message and Mrs. Paul Nelson the musical numbers. Out of town people attending the services as follows: Dr. and Mrs. E. H. Stahly and Ruth Cressman of Saginaw, Michigan, Dr. and Mrs. Grant Stahly of Columbus, Ohio, Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Sundberg, and Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Carpenter and Jimmy of Stromsburg, Rev. Gerald Stahly of Denver, Colorado, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Zook of Carnet, Kansas, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Stahly, Alvin Stahly, Mrs. Lena Rich and Mr. and Mrs. Rome Ingel and family of Newton, Kansas. Mr. and Mrs. Lee Chatelain and Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Chatclain of Waverly, Kansas, Harold Stahly of Indianapolis, Indiana, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Anderson of Walton, Nebraska, Misses Nan and Gertrude Miller of Seward, Mrs. Paul Nelson of Clarks, the Misses Anna, Lavina, Margeret and Hazel Sundberg, Mrs. Esther Granberg, Mr. and Mrs. David Sundberg, Mr. and Mrs. Albin Sundberg, and Rev and Mrs. W. J. Cahill of Stromsburg. The pallbearers were Sam Miller, Lorence Burkey, Stanley Eicher, Frank Strayer, Elmer Myers, John Albrecht.
