HEWITT OF MORNING SUN IS TAKEN TO REST Pioneer of Community Is Taken in 94th Year; Seven Survive. Morning Sun (IA), February 24 -- Mrs. Amy A. Hewitt, widow of William J. Hewitt, died at 4 o'clock yesterday afternoon (February 23, 1926) at her home east of here at the age of 94 years. She had been ill since January 30. Mrs. Hewitt, who was formerly Amy A. Bergen was the daughter of George and Deborah Bergen, one of the family of eight. Her father was a veteran of the war of 1812. She was married September 28, 1854, to Mr. Hewitt, and they began their married life on a farm now operated by their son, Cyrus. At that time morning sun had only 16 buildings. In 1881 they moved to the new farm east of town, where they had since resided. Mr. Hewitt died September 6, 1894. Ten children were born to the union and seven survive. The family consists of Cyrus F., Mary W., Thomas, Theodore of Morning Sun; Alvin H., Spokane, Washington, Mrs. Nina Armstrong, Hampton, and all were with her during her last illness. Mrs. Hewitt was a charter member of the Presbyterian church here and has been always active in its works. She attended services regularly despite her advanced age and was most happy when in the center of the group of her children and grandchildren. The Hewitt family reunions for years have been big events in the community.
