Thomas Hewitt, 74, died at the home of his brother, Theodore Hewitt, east of Morning Sun, tonight (Thursday*) about 11:30, following a brief illness. Mr. Hewitt was born in this community and had lived here all his life. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Hewitt, pioneer residents of Louisa county. The surviving brothers and sister are: C. F. Hewitt of Mediapolis; Theodore Hewitt of Morning Sun; Mrs. Nina Armstrong of Hampton, Iowa; A. H. Hewitt of Spokane, Washington, and Charles Hewitt of North Yakima, Washington. ___________________ The Morning Sun News-Herald Last Rites for Late W. T. Hewitt. The funeral services of W. T. Hewitt, who died at the home of his brother, Theodore Hewitt, east of town, on December 26 (1940), were held from the Presbyterian church on Sunday afternoon, conducted by the Reverend O. L. Byrns. The singers were W. A. Thompson, Raymond Pogemiller, J. C. Green and A. Mecklenburg, with Mrs. Raymond Pogemiller as pianist. The interment was at Elmwood cemetery, with Cal Stewart, Ed Hudson, David Armstrong, Kirk Armstrong, Pete Mauer, Ralph Wilson and E. L. Baylor as pallbearers. W. T. Hewitt, better known as Tom, was born on the homestead two miles southeast of Moaning Sun, on October 27, 1866, the son of Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Hewitt. He moved in 1881 with the family to a new home a mile east of Morning Sun. In childhood, he attended the rural school at Honey Greek and in early manhood worked as a farm hand. In 1809 he became farm manager for J. A. Rice at Salem, Iowa, which position he filled until his health failed in 1925, making his home since then with his brother Theodore Hewitt. He was a lifelong and faithful member of 'the Presbyterian church and was highly respected by the entire community. Surviving are one sister, Mrs. Nina Armstrong of Hampton, Iowa; four brothers, C. F. Hewitt of Mediapolis; Theodore Hewitt of; Morning Sun; A. H. Hewitt of Spokane, Washington; Chas Hewitt of North Yakima, Washington.
