Mr. Hewitt was born in Preble county, Ohio. He made a profession of religion when 21 years of ago in Ohio. Came to Van Buren county, Iowa, in 1841. Read More	The Morning Sun News Died at his residence near Morning Sun, Iowa, September 6th, 1894, Mr. William John Hewitt, aged 74 years and three months. Mr. Hewitt was born in Preble county, Ohio. He made a profession of religion when 21 years of ago in Ohio. Came to Van Buren county, Iowa, in 1841. Returned to Ohio in 1845, and married Miss Mary Stewart and soon after returned to Iowa, settling in Louisa county. In 1854 he was united in marriage to Miss Amy A. Bergen, who, with six sons and two daughters, survive him. Mr. Hewitt was a member of the Presbyterian church at Morning Sun (being one of the orginal 18 members), for nearly forty-six years. During this time he held overy office of trust within the gift of the church. For twenty years he has been a member of tho session and certainly no member was more faithful and helpful than he. In the recent building of the new church he was especially interested and was one of the most efficient members of the building committee in pushing tho enterprise through to a successful completion. The church can ill afford to spare him, and felt on the day of the funeral that the church had met with a great loss. In his sickness not a murmer escaped him. He was resigned, cheerful and had wonderful patience and serenity. When the end came he just fell asleep in the arms of Jesus, whom he so long loved and whom he has now met. He leaves a widow, six sons and two daughters, to whom he was a most effectionate husband and a kind father. They mourn his departure not as those who have no hope, being persuaded that in the hopeful future there will be a joyful reunion. Being dead he yet speaks. Christian soldier, well done. The funeral services were hold at his late home on Friday, conducted by his pastor; Reverend J. K. Alexander, who was assisted by Reverends Campbell and Jackson. A great many of his old friends and neighbors were present at the services.
