Mead, died at her home in this city, at 10:30 p. m., Tuesday, November 25, 1902, after an illness of several weeks. Mrs. Mead was a woman of culture and education and took a prominent part in the woman's society known as the Unity Club, up to two years ago but since that time she had been detained at home because of the illness of her youngest child. For a long time the little one's life was despaired of and the loving mother was ever at its side. Her nerves gradually wore out. Although she was confined to her bed for two weeks, prior to her death, it was not thought that she was near the end. On the night of her death she arose from her bed and her clothes were changed and the bed arranged, on being replaced again in the bed she arranged the pillows under her chest, and lay down like a child will sometimes do and fell peacefully to sleep only to awake again on that great day when the trumpet will sound. Deceased was a very pleasant woman and was loved most by those who new (sic) her best. Funeral services were held from the home at ten o'clock Friday morning, conducted by Rev. W. E. Matthews, of Merna, this state, a personal friend of the family, assisted by Rev. John Madely, of this city. Many were the friends who congregated to pay their last respects to a dead neighbor. Beautiful were the flowers that were laid upon the casket by loving hands. At the cemetery the pupils of the ninth and tenth grades of the city High school, marched around the grave while singing "Nearer my God to Thee" dropped each a sprig of evergreen upon the casket. Thus were the remains of a loving wife and a kind patient mother laid to rest. Amy Aurelia Shetlar (sic) was born in Knox county, Ohio, on the eighth day of October, 1862, she lived two years in Illinois and later moved to Colorado. She came to Sherman county, Nebraska, from Salida, Colorado, in September, 1883. She taught one term of school in the county and on the 23rd day of August, 1884, was united in marriage with Prof. M. H. Mead, at the home of Geo. W. Hunter, in this city. To this union were born four children, two boys and two girls, the youngest being a boy of four years. Her husband and four children survive her. Her father and mother still live and reside at Hemingford, this state, he being present at the time of her death. A sister, Mrs. W. T. Chase, of this city, and a brother, Rolland Shetlar, of Riverton, this state, also survive her. The Sherman County Times-Independent - Dec 4 1902
