Amy Ellen Alexander, a daughter of William and Mary Leech was born in Scotch Grove, Iowa, March 17, 1858, being 73 years, 2 months and 25 days of age at her passing. She was united in marriage to William H. Alexander on September 18, 1879. Nine children were born to bless this home, four of whom have been called away. They were George M. Arthur C.; Frank W and Scott C. Mrs. Alexander is survived by her husband, two daughters, Bertha E. Saxon and Audrey Fullerton, both of Chicago, Illinois; three sons, John of Springville; Samuel H. of Olin, and James L. of Chicago. Also one brother and one sister, Howard Leech of Center Junction and Clara Stephenson of Wyoming. Two brothers and two sisters preceded her in death. Twelve grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also mourn her passing besides many neighbors and a great host of friends. Years ago she united with the Methodist Episcopal Church in Onslow and later, transferred to the Center Junction church. She will be greatly missed in the various farms of work in the church, for she loved her church dearly. She was a firm believer in her God and put her trust in Christ the Son of God, knowing that he was able to save her on the last day. To those whose good fortune it was to enjoy the acquaintance and friendship of Mother Alexander, little need be said of her character more than her life was one of service to her Maker and her friends, with a freshness of manner and tenderness of heart that made for such a life, whose deeds will carry on. We, also, careless of a monument by the grave, should build in the world a monument by which men may be taught to remember, not where we died but where we lived. Funeral services were held in the Methodist Episcopal church, last Saturday, June 13, at 2 p.m. Rev. F.C. Worcester had charge of the service assisted by Rev. A. Alyea, neighbor and friend of the deceased. Burial was made in the Madison cemetery. Those from a distance who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Will Fullerton, Mr. and Mrs. James Alexander and children, Joseph Alexander, Lyle Saxon and Mrs. Miles, all of Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. John Alexander and son Dean of Springville; Mr. and Mrs. Sam Alexander of Olin; Mr. and Mrs. Sigmund and Mrs. Frank Alexander and daughter, of Wheatland, and Mrs. Stephenson of Wyoming. Mrs. Bertha Saxon, a daughter, was unable to be present, having recently submitted to an operation for appendicitis.
