Bijjani The funeral for former Emporian Mrs. George Yousef Bijjani, 87, of Trenton, N.J, will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the First Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Gordon Bechtel will conduct the service. The family will meet friends from 2 until 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home. Mrs. Bijjani died Oct. 20, 1996, at the Helene Fuld Medical Center in Trenton, N.J. Mrs. Bijjani was a professor at the College of Emporia for 11 years before she retired in 1972. Earlier, she was a missionary for the Presbyterian Church for 10 years in Beirut, Lebanon, where she taught biology and home economics at the American Junior College. While there, she met and married George Yousef Bijjani of Kahaleh, Lebanon, who was a professor [of] biology at the American University of Beirut. In 1947, she and her husband returned to the United States to continue their studies in entomology. She taught ornithology at the University of Dubuque and biology at North Senior High School in Des Moines and at the College of Emporia. She lived in Emporia 36 years. Anabel E. Clark, the daughter of Robert and Alice Thatcher Clark, was born May 4, 1909, in Monroe County, Iowa. She attended Albia High School, graduated from Iowa Wesleyan College in 1931 with a degree in biology; graduated from Ohio State University with a master's degree in entomology. She also studied home economics at Ohio State. She [attended] Oberlin Theological Seminary for a year. Se married George Yousef Bijjani on June 26, 1940, at Beirut, Lebanon. He died July 16, 1967. Mrs. Bijjani was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, where she was a deacon, an elder and taught Sunday school classes. She also was a member of the Presbyterian Women's Association of University Women. She is survived by three daughters, the Rev. Alice Adel Bijjani of Trenton, N.J., Grace Virginia Bijanni of Dubuque, Iowa, and Ann Kertesz of Mill Creek, Wash.; and two grandchildren, Allison Kertesz and Lindsay Kertesz.
