Lehr, 88, pioneer and prominent longtime businessman in Gackle died early Friday morning, July 29, 1966 at his home in Lodi, California. Andrew F. Lehr was born September 22, 1879, at the family farm four miles southwest of Tripp, S.D. the son of Andreas Lehr and Clara Goehring Lehr. He attended the local school and grew to manhood on the farm where he worked for his parents until December, 1902. At the age of 23 he went to Kulm, N.D., where he worked in the Zillmer General Store. In the year 1904 he came to Gackle where he started the Lehr Real Estate Office. In the following year, 1905, he helped organize the Logan County Bank, later named the First State Bank of Gackle. On September 2, 1906, he and Magdalena Hieb were married at Kulm, N.D. The couple made their home in Gackle, where Mr. Lehr was associated with banking and real estate. In 1925, he organized the A. F. Lehr Company in which he remained active until his retirement due to illness. He had been honored as one of the oldest continual bankers of North Dakota, having served as president since 1909. He was active in civic affairs and was instrumental in forming new businesses in Gackle. In 1931 he was elected to the state Legislature as a representative for the 36th District, and was active in church affairs, having served as Trustee or Deacon of the Grace Baptist Church at various times as well as being Sunday School Superintendent and Teacher. He helped organize and build the Baptist Home for the Aged at Bismarck and served as treasurer for many years. Following the death of his wife in July 1959, he continued to live in Gackle. On February 18, 1962, he and Margaret Rott Goehring were married at Lodi, California. They made Gackle their summer home, living the winter months at Lodi, California. They returned to Lodi in the fall of 1963 where Mr. Lehr was taken ill and remaining until his death. Surviving are his widow, a daughter Ella (Mrs. Charles E. Hamilton), Hillsborough, Calif., a son Calvin C. Lehr, Gackle, N.D., six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, two daughters and on son in infancy, a daughter Clara, five brothers and three sisters. The body is being returned to Gackle for funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 3, 1966,at the Grace Baptist Church in Gackle with Rev. R. C. Staking, pastor officiating. Burial was in the family plot in the Gackle Cemetery. The body was at the Haut Funeral Home in Gackle
