In spite of his 88 years of age, Mr McDonald has a remarkable memory and his chief delight was in telling tales of the old days prior to the famous flood of '81 and immediatley after. He has been a subscriber to the Plain Talk for 50 odd years and made a practice of giving subscriptions to the paper as Christmas gifts. Born in Bellshill, Scotland May 4, 1851. Mr McDonald came to this country with his parents 6 years later. The family first settled in Buffalo, New York but soon after moved to Ontario, Canada. In 1874 they moved to South Dakota and he had been a resident of this community ever since. In 1882 he was united in marriage to Jane Harrington, who died in 1884. Some years after he was again married, this time to Ida Keller. His second wife died in 1937. Surviving are 3 children, Mary, of Lincoln, Neb; Lee and Archie both at home. One brother A.C. McDonald of Vermillion and 2 grandsons also survive. Funeral service will be held at the Elmore funeral home at 2:00 Saturday afternoon. The Rev Puckett, of the Star Prairie church will give the sermon. Interment will be in the Bluffview cemetery. Taken from the front page of the Plain Talk newspaper on Aug 24, 1939.
