McCormick died Monday noon, November 12th, 1923, at St. Joseph's Mercy Hospital, Fort Dodge, Iowa, following an operation from which he did not completely recover until other complications summoned him in death. He was born on July 6th,1864, in Wallace township, LaSalle county, Illinois. When five years of age he moved, with his parents, Richard and Elizabeth McCormick, to Grand Rapids township, where he lived until he was united in marriage to Miss Elizabeth Hughes, on February 20th,1895. To this happy union three children were born. On March 7th, 1914, with his family, he moved from Grand Ridge, Illinois to Pocahontas, Iowa, where they have since resided. In the death of this good man, our town and community suffers the loss of one of its most influential, sturdy, honest and upright citizens. Always of a happy, cheerful disposition and at all times ready to defend the good name of another. One of his closest friends remarked to us, a few days ago, that in their long acquaintance with him they they had never heard him speak an ill word of any human being. He was a man who was uneasy only when idle, and that was very seldom, for although he could have spent the last few years of his life in retirement, it was his disposition to want to be continually laboring at some kind of work. He felt that his greatest happiness was wrought from honest labor. He was an ideal citizen, a humble,open hearted, God fearing man, who was never more happy than when in the midst of his loved ones at home. It is to them, his faithful wife and loving children, that the weight of sorrow will bear the heaviest, in the days that are to come. He leaves to mourn his sudden departure his wife and son, Richard McCormick, of Pocahontas, Iowa; daughter, Mayme McCormick Hogan,Fonda,Iowa; daughter, Margaret McCormick Kleen, Pocahontas,Iowa, two brothers John and Richard McCormick of Ottawa,Illinois. The funeral was held from Sacred Heart Church,Thursday morning with burial in Calvary cemetery. The pallbearers were M.W. Linnan, W.W. Howard, J.F. Walsh, J.J.McCartan, R.C. Derr and John Kleen. Internment was made in Calvary Cemetery, Pocahontas.
