He said Hengstler had left a note saying he believed he had taken the wrong medicine, when he intended to take some salts. Mrs. Odineal, upon receiving the letter Monday morning, immediately came to Norfolk with Mr. Odineal and upon their arrival at the Hengstler home, where her uncle lived alone, found the body. A doctor was summoned and he said indications were Hengstler had been dead since some time Sunday. As there was no violence in the case, Dittrick said it would not be necessary to hold an inquest. He said Hengstler died from the effects of poison, probably strychnine. Authorities are somewhat puzzled because Hengstler did not summon help from neighbors or make an attempt to call a doctor. Mrs. Hengstler was fatally injured last Christmas Eve, when struck by an automobile at Ninth Street and Norfolk Avenue, while she was on her way to the First Congregational church to see her grandson, Robert Horn, take part in a Christmas program. Ed Horn, Norfolk stepson of Hengstler, left early Monday morning on a business trip to Omaha and at noon today an effort was being made to reach him. A step-daughter, Mrs. Eva Maas, lives on Pasewalk Avenue....Norfolk News Obituary Andrew Jacob, son of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Hengstler, among Creighton's earliest residents, was born at Cedar Bluffs, Saunders county, Nebraska, March 10, 1871 and died Sunday, November 2 at his home in Norfolk at the age of 64. In 1872, when he was but thirteen months old, his parents moved to this community and he grew to manhood here. He was identified with business enterprises here and at Battle Creek and Meadow Grove after leaving the farm. He and W.C. Hengstler had a harness shop in the building, which now houses the Schaum jewelry store and those two, with their other brother, J.M. Hengstler, subsequently had implement stores at Battle Creek and Meadow Grove simultaneously. It was while living at Battle Creek, he was married to Ernstena Horn. From Battle Creek, he and his family went to Falmouth, Mich., where he farmed two years, afterward returning again to Creighton. Seventeen years ago he moved to Norfolk, where he resided up to the time of his passing. Left to mourn his passing are two stepchildren, Edward Horn and Eva Maas, both of Norfolk; two sisters, Mrs. Fred Bush and Martha Hengstler, two brothers, J.M. and W.C. Hengstler, the latter four of this city; other relatives and scores of friends and acquaintances. News of his death was a distinct shock to even members of the family. His sister, Martha Hengstler, turned on the radio Monday noon and there first learned of his passing. It was a singular incident, for she had not been using the radio at all of late. Ill the past several weeks, she was not able to attend funeral services. The deceased was a man of sterling Christian principles, devoted to his family and friends. This area was new indeed when his parents came here and as a boy and youth he experienced many of the rigors common to pioneer days. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 1 o'clock at the Wolt-Berge chapel in Norfolk with the Rev. Merle Adams, pastor of the First Congregational church, Norfolk, officiating.
