Welch, son of Andrew and Nancy Welch was born In Clarke county, Iowa, May 11, 1866, and departed this life at his home near Jay, Iowa, March 5, 1938, age 71 years, 9 months and 22 days. He was united in marriage to Anna Goodrich on Feb. 19, 1893. To this union were born three children two sons and one daughter. Lloyd and Cecil of Woodburn. Iowa, and Mrs. Lela Lamb of Swan, Iowa. The deceased was one of a family of eight children, six boys and two girls, all of whom have preceded him in death except one brother William of Charlton, Iowa. The deceased are James. John, Newt, Mrs. Diannah Billings, Mrs. Mollie Holloway and Burnett the latter dying when quite young. The deceased was converted during a meeting conducted at Bethel Chapel by Rev. S. Quick some 45 years ago and he united with the Christian Union Church at Bethel, where he remained ever faithful. His entire life was spent on the same farm and in the same neighborhood where he was born. His home has always been an open door to those passing by, and many have been tenderly cared for therein. He has been very patient and thoughtful of those who administered to and lovingly cared for him during his illness. Although he had been in falling health for several months he had only been confined to his bed but a few days. And his sudden death came as a great shock to his loved ones, neighbors and friends. In his going the wife has lost a devoted companion, the children and grandchildren a loving father and grandfather and the community a good neighbor and friend. Those who mourn his departure are the companion, two sons, one daughter, two daughters-in-law, one son-in-law, eleven grandchildren and two great grandchildren; the brother William Welch and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Newt Welch both of Chariton; a host of nieces, nephews and neighbors and kind friends. Funeral services were conducted at Bethel Chapel on Tuesday afternoon, March 8, at two o'clock by Rev. C. C. Donaghue of Milo, Iowa, assisted by Rev. A. Hunter of Hedrick, Iowa, and Rev. N. D. Gordon of Indianola, Iowa. Bennie Lynn assisted by Mrs. Lynn at the piano rendered the song service. Pallbearers were his nephews: Walker, Joe and Ross Welch, Andy, Harry and Frankie Goodrich. Interment was in the beautiful Bethel Chapel cemetery. Card of Thanks Words cannot express our thanks and appreciation to all those who extended to us their sympathy and kindness during the illness, death and burial of our dear husband and father. To Mr. Webster who had charge of the burial, for the floral offerings, the music and the comforting words of the ministers, we sincerely appreciate it all. Mrs. A. M. Coles, Mrs. Ida Nichols, Mrs. May Swartzlander of Indianola, Mr. and Mrs. William McPherson of Ackworth, Mr. and Mrs. Cliff Heberlin, Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Thornburg and son of Pleasantville, Mr. and Mrs. Cleo Lamb and family of Swan, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Southward of Milo, Mrs. Walter Loomis and son Cecil, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Goodrich of Truro, Jess Goodrich of Liberty Center, Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Kearney, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Goodrich, Mrs. Perry Carson and daughter of Osceola, Mr. and Mrs. Andy Woodburn, William Welch, Mrs. Newt Welch, Walker, Joe and Ross Welch, Mr. and Mrs. Garfield Crawford, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Anderson and Lowell Arnold of Charlton.
