Read More	The Osceola Sentinel, Osceola, Iowa October 09, 1930, Page 5 CHARLES NEWTON WELCH Charles Newton Welch was born in Clarke county, Iowa February 3, 1863, and departed this life at his home in Chariton Iowa, September 26, 1930, aged 67 years, 7 months and 23 days. He was united in marriage on December 1, 1886, to Jennie Goodrich of Warren county, la. To this union was born one child, Ora A., who became the wife of Hal Arnold and who preceded her father in death April 25, 1926. The deceased leaves to mourn his departure a loving wife, the son-in-law Hal Arnold four grandchildren, Lowel Claire Arnold of Indianola, Mrs. Twyla Maude Anderson of Lacona, Ona Lois and Lester Dean Arnold of Woodburn, also three great grandchildren; three brothers, John of Aurora, Oregon, William P. of Chariton, and Andrew M. of Woodburn, besides a host of other relatives, friends and neighbors. Four weeks ago he suffered a stroke of paralysis from which time he gradually failed until death claimed its own. He was a member of the Christian Union church at Bethel Chapel, Clarke county, for a number of years and was always a faithful and willing worker for his church. About 11 years ago he moved from his farm in Clarke county to his present home in Charlton, Iowa, where he has been in the grocery business up to the time of his death. He was always willing and ready to help in time of need and was respected by all who knew him. Funeral services were held at the new church at Bethel Chapel Sunday afternoon, September 28, at 2 o'clock by Rev. Andy Dorrell of Missouri, assisted by Rev. Jones of Chariton. Interment was made in Bethel cemetery. The pall bearers were six of his nephews. Walker and Joe Welch, Andy and Frank Goodrich and Lloyd and Cecil Welch. A large congregation was present to pay their tribute of respect to the departed and to the companion, brothers and grandchildren and all relatives this community with many others extend their sincere sympathy in the loss of their loved one. Relatives from a distance there to attend the funeral were Ed Zarley of Des Moines, Mrs. Susan Swartzlander and son, L. R. Swartzlander. Mr. and Mrs James Marquis, Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Shaver, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Nichols of Indianola, John Roan and daughter Harriett of Achworth; Mr. and Mrs. Cleo Lamb of Carlisle; Mr. and Mrs. Ray Goodrich, Mr. and Mrs Elmer Goodrich and Walter Loomis of Truro; Mr. and Mrs Frank Goodrich. Mr. and Mrs. Andy Goodrich. Mrs. Sarah Goodrich. Mr. and Mrs. Perry Carson of Osceola. The friends were Mr. and Mrs. Fred Morrow, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Blackstock of New London, Iowa, several from Osceola, Woodburn, Liberty and Medora. Card of Thanks. We wish to thank our kind neighbors and friends for their help, sympathy and deeds of kindness during the sickness, death and burial of our companion, brother and grandfather, thanking those for floral offerings, singing and all services.
