Lowenbach, at the corner of West Market and High streets, yesterday afternoon a few minutes before 5 o’clock, after a prolonged illness from a complication of diseases. Her death was due directly to hear failure. Mrs. Lowenbach became ill last October and since that time had been gradually failing. A month or six weeks ago she became very much worse, but rallied, and had been doing very well until Sunday, when she suffered a relapse. Monday night she began to sink rapidly and her children were telegraphed for. Her son, Albert, a traveling salesman, was on a business trip through West Virginia and was unable to reach his mother’s bedside before the end came. Mrs. Arthur N. Carroll, of Front Royal, the only daughter, was detained at home on account of illness. They are expected to reach Harrisonburg this afternoon. Born in Keezletown, on the site of the building now occupied by A. D. Bertram & Co, as a store-room, January 12, 1830, Mrs. Lowenbach was in her seventy eighth year and her entire life, with the exception of a few years shortly after her marriage was spent in Rockingham County. Her parents were the late Anthony and Elizabeth Huffman, well know residents of the Keezletown neighborhood many years ago. In 1862 Mr. and Mrs. Lowenbach moved to Harrisonburg from Shenandoah County and have resided here ever since. When ten years old she united with the Methodist Church at Keezletown and was one of the oldest members of that denomination in the county at the time of her death. Surviving her are two sons, Messrs. William M. and Albert M. Lowenbach, of Harrisonburg and Mrs. Arthur N. Carroll, of Front Royal. Of her father’s family of eight children only one now survives, Mrs. Simon Ocatreciher, of Harrisonburg. Mrs. Lowenbach was a woman of kindly disposition and many lovable qualities, which together with her Christian character, endeared her to a large circle of friends in Harrisonburg and vicinity. The funeral will be held from the house tomorrow. The hour has not been definitely fixed, pending the arrival of her children and other relatives from a distance.
