WILLIAM FOSTER: One more of the few remaining links with pioneer days of this district were severed by the death, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. H. Hamilton, 33 Mill St., Orangeville, on Friday, February 24th, 1956, of Mrs. William Foster. Mrs. Foster, who was in her 61st year and had been bedfast for the past eight years, was a farmer well-known resident of Amaranth and East Luther. Ann Maria, daughter of Elizabeth Cowan and Hamilton Reilly, was born October 15, 1875, in Amaranth and received part of her education in Hillsburgh where the family resided for some time. On March 1st, 1899, she was married to Wm. Foster. East Luther, and nine children were born to the couple. Surviving are three daughters and four sons: Mrs. Fred Short (Nellie), of Arthur; Mrs. Norman Thompson (Beatrice) of Port Elgin; Mrs. Harold Hamilton (Gladys), Orangeville; Percy of Hespeler; Clifford, of Arthur; Cecil, of Grand Valley, and George, of Toronto. Two children predeceased her: Ruth, at the age of 7, and Lloyd, an infant. Also surviving are four sisters: Mrs. Wm. Finlay, Brampton; Mrs. B. W. Nelson, Grand Valley; Mrs. H. Robson, Jessopville; Mrs. W. McCune, Grand Valley. Three brothers, George, William and Stanley, predeceased her. The funeral service was from Sime's Funeral Home, Grand Valley, to St. Alban's Anglican Church on Monday, February 27, at 2:00 p.m. Rev. D. Woeller, of Orangeville, conducted the service. Interment was in Union Cemetery Mortuary, but final burial will be in St. Alban's Cemetery. Pallbearers were Messrs. Norman Nelson. Willis McCune, George Finlay, Ralph Hamilton, Jim Finlay and Melville Robson. Many floral tributes from relatives and friends, brought comfort to the family. Especially appreciated was one from the deceased's five great grandchildren.
