REILLY: On Monday, Sept. 18th, there entered into rest one of Grand Valley's most respected residents, in the person of George C. Reilly, fourth eldest of a family of ten of the late Mr. and Mrs. Hamilton Reilly. George would have been 77 years old if he had lived till Nov. 3rd of this year. He was always an active worker and went about his work with a love in his heart to be always up and doing. On the morning of Sept. 18th, he was busy digging his potatoes at his Grand Valley house. When Mrs. Robt. Watt went to empty the ashes, she noticed George lying on the ground and thought there was something wrong. On investigating, she found he had a stroke. She very kindly called a neighbor and between them got him into her house and made him comfortable on her couch till some of his sisters arrived and took over, calling his doctor, Dr. Johnston, in Shelburne. When Dr. Johnston arrived he found he had a severe stroke and said it would be the matter of hours. He passed peacefully away about five o'clock. He was born in Erin Township and spent most of his childhood days between there and Hillsburgh. George will be sorely missed among his loved ones and friends. He was always ready to say "yes" when anyone needed a hand to help with anything. He was a devoted member of the Latter Day Saint Church, and was in his pew the last Sunday night of his life. The funeral was held on Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 20th. Private funeral service was held at the home of his sister, Mrs. Pearl McCune, where the remains rested, at 2:00 o'clock. Public service followed in the Latter Day Saints Church at 2:30 o'clock. Elder R. J. Farthing took charge of the services, assisted by Elder John H. Taylor. Two of his favorite hymns were used, "What a Friend We Have in Jesus," and "Rock of Ages." Interment was made in Union Cemetery, Grand Valley. George made his home since retiring between his two sisters, Mrs. Ben Nelson and Mrs. Pearl McCune. The flowers were lovely. Wreaths from each of his Sisters; The Church; Nieces and Nephews of the Ritchie family; basket, LaVerne and Ivadelle Crane and Gordon Quinton; basket, Foster family. Pallbearers were six nephews: George Finlay, Jim Findlay, Earl Robson, Willis McCune, Cecil Foster, Clifford Foster. Flowerbearers were: Ralph Hamilton, Glen Gordon, LaVerne Allan, Hector Irvine, Leslie McCune, Norman Nelson. Much sympathy is extended to the sorrowing friends.
