''''''''''' Ulysses Dispatch, August 22, 1940, p. 1, col. 6 Mrs. Anna Gannon The hearts of old Ulysses friends were saddened when news came of the passing of Mrs. Anna Gannon, an old Ulysses resident in the early morning of August 14th at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John Calelly, and Mr. Callely, at Amelia, Nebraska. She was 71 years of age and was preceded in death by her husband, one daughter, Winnifred, and one son, Thomas. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Mamie Jones of Seward, and Mrs. John Calelly of Amelia; also one son, William, of near Ulysses. There are ten grandchildren There are other relatives and all united in tendering heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved loved ones, who oft will long for the touch of a vanished hand and sigh for the voice that is still. As an early pioneer Mrs. Gannon did much for those who suffered many hardships incident to those trying years. She was ever to be found at the post of duty, and lived the life of a practical Catholic who was always present at church services as long as health would permit. For many months prior to her passing she had been very ill, being confined to her bed. She was very patient. However, with skilled medical attention and good nursing, her condition improved to the extent that she was taken to the home of her daughter, Mrs. Calelly and Mr. Calelly. A few weeks ago, she improved for a time and was able to be up and about the house but death's angel called and she answered the summons to come up higher. Her funeral services took place Friday morning at 9:30 o'clock at the Ulysses Catholic church, and were conducted by the pastor, Rev. Father Downey, who celebrated a requiem high mass for the repose of her soul. In his excellent sermon he paid fitting tribute to the worthy woman gone to her reward. A goodly number of friends and neighbors were present. "Eternal Rest grant unto her, O Lord, and may Light Perpetual shine upon her." Interment was made by the side of loved ones in the Catholic cemetery near town. Mr. McVay, the Ulysses mortician, was in charge. - E. B. L.
