Gannon was born in Esker County, Galway, Ireland and died at his home in Ulysses on Sept. 14, 1922, aged 68 years. He was one of a family of eleven children, six of whom have passed to the Great Beyond. Three sisters, also one brother are still living in Ireland, and one sister, Mrs. Wm. Brown, at Ulysses. His widow, also four children survive him, together with seven grandchildren. Deceased came to America in 1879 and, on Sept. 19, 1885, was married to Miss Anna Webber, at Ulysses. Five children were born to them, Mrs. J. J. Jones of near Staplehurst; Sarah, William and Thomas, of Ulysses. Winifred passed away fifteen years ago at the age of seventeen. Mr. Gannon left home when 19 years old and came to Morison, Illinois, where he remained for three years. In 1882 he went to Sidney, Iowa, where he engaged in agricultural pursuits. His first year was marked by a failure, a July hail storm ruining his crop. A little later he came to Seward in a covered wagon. He remained there throughout the winter, coming to Ulysses the following spring where 4 miles north of town, he lived as one of the pioneers, until, with his family, he came to Ulysses two years ago. With the passing years Dame Fortune smiled upon him and his ambition and industry were crowned with success. During the past 12 years Mr. Gannon was an invalid, although able to be up and about until a few days of his passing. Always a lover of nature, Mr. Gannon passed the days of his illness in out of door life, coming down town daily, where he became a familiar figure upon the streets and where his friends were wont to chat with the gentle man who bore his afflication so patiently and cheerfully. His funeral services occurred Saturday morning and were conducted by his pastor, Rev. Father Loughran at St. Mary's church, where a requiem high mass was celebrated for the repose of his soul. The respect and esteem entertained for their old friend was attested by a wide circle of friends and neighbors who came to pay thier last respects. The floral offerings were very beautiful. The pall bearers were: James Timoney, Luke Mundy, Patsy Nihill, Thos. McNally, Hugh Kelly, Jr., and Daniel Powers. Interment was made in the Catholic cemetery.
