N. R. [Sylvester Newton Robison] Taken from the Shelby County Herald, Shelbyville, Missouri Obituary for Anna Baum Robison Anna Baum was born in Ohio, January 16, 1826. She was united in marriage to D. M. Robison in 1844. Of this union 6 children were born. In 1865 she with her husband and family moved to Shelby County, Missouri, where she resided until her death on Sunday, February 14, 1897. In 1889 she united with the M. E. Church at Forest Grove under the pastorate of Rev. H. C. Dayhoff. She has been a constant follower of her Divine Master and a consistent member of the church. During the last few months she had been a constant and patient sufferer, awaiting the end with Christian heroism. She leaves a devoted husband and six children to mourn her death, yet they mourn not as those without hope. The writer conducted her funeral, which was a very impressive service. The text chosen being "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints." The church altar was beautifully decorated with house plants and cut flowers. The wreaths were a Maltese cross from the Shelbyville Epworth League and an anchor from Mrs. Nevins.--T. A. Burke Death of Mrs. Anna B. Robison Mrs. Anna B. Robison, wife of D. M. Robison, died at her home 4 miles northwest of Shelbyville on Sunday, February 14, 1897 at 12:15 p.m. after a long illness. She died from the effects of a cancer which first showed itself on her person some two or three years ago. Last summer she went to Topeka, Kansas, and was under treatment of physicians there for several months, but no good was accomplished. She came home in the fall and grew gradually worse until death. Her death at any time during the past two months would not have been a surprise. She leaves a husband and six children as follows--S. N. and O. P. Robison, Mrs. W. H. McMaster, and Mrs. Frank Hatcher all of this county [Shelby County, Missouri], Mrs. A. A. Majors of Topeka, Kansas, and Charles Robison of near Denver, Colorado. All the children except Charles were at the bedside when the mother breathed her last. Mrs. Robison came to this county from Ohio with her husband in April 1865 and settled on the farm where she died. She was a faithful member of the M. E. Church, and a good woman. Funeral took place at the M. E. Church in this city [Shelbyville, Missouri] at 1 p.m. on Monday, February 15th, attended by a large concourse of people, services being conducted by Rev. T. A. Burke. Burial at I.O.O.F. [Shelby Memorial] Cemetery. In Memory of Mother Mrs. Anna (Baum) Robison was born in Wyandotte County, Ohio, January 16, 1826. Died at the old home four miles northwest of Shelbyville, Missouri, February 14, 1897, at 12:15 p.m. where she had lived nearly 32 years. Aged 71 years and 28 days. On the 20th of May, 1844, at the home of her birth she was united in marriage to D. M. Robison. To this union were born six children, three sons and three daughters. the husband and all the children survive her. All are married and have families; five of them with their companions were at her bedside and witnessed the last scenes of her earthly life, one son, Charlie H., living near Denver, Colorado, being the only child absent. She united early in life with the United Brethren church while living in Ohio, and lived a devoted Christian until her death. Her home in Ohio was the scene of many happy hours, as prayer meetings were often held there. Upon the building and organization of the church at Forest Grove, near her home, she put in her membership there under the ministry of Rev. H. C. Dayhoff, and there it remained until death severed her connection with the visible, to unite her with the church of Christ above. She had been failing in health about five years before her death. About two years ago a black spot appeared on her left limb just above the ankle, but it was not thought to be serious until April, when she went to her daughter's at Topeka, Kansas, and was there examined by a specialist, who pronounced it that dreaded of all diseases, a cancer. After a treatment of about four months there she returned home and continued to grow worse until death came and her spirit took its flight to the God who gave it. During the last few months she suffered intensely, but never complained, and often said, "The Lord's will be done, not mine." She bore her suffering with a Christ-like spirit. Two months before her death she realized the end was approaching, and summoned her children to her bedside, and from that time she often spoke of the bright hopes she had of the life beyond. These last days were especially devoted to her Lord. She was often filled with joy she could not suppress. On one occasion when it seemed as though she was about to depart from us, she called on brother Newt to pray. At another time she wanted us to sing, and in singing that beautiful song, "Jesus lover of my soul," she joined in the singing. She was conscious to the last, and having spent her life in the service of the Master, had no fears when death came. She gave full directions about her burial, even choosing the pall-bearers and the ones to dress her for the grave. For nearly fifty-three years she was a faithful wife, a true and devoted mother. Her lamp was always trimmed and brightly burning, and she has passed from earth to her reward in heaven. Her funeral was preached by her pastor, Rev. T. A. Burke, from Psalms, 116th chapter and 15th verse--"Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints," after which her remains, followed by many friends and loved ones were laid to rest in the Odd Fellows cemetery at Shelbyville, there to await the resurrection morn. Robison, living five miles northwest of Shelbyville died last Sunday evening of a cancer, after a lingering illness of several months and was buried in Shelbyville Monday. Funeral services were conducted at the M. E. church by Rev. T. A. Burke and interment followed at the Odd Fellows' [Shelby Memorial] cemetery. Deceased leaves a husband and six children.
