He is of an old Pennsylvania family, and was born in Adams County, of that state, on the first day of November, 1821. When he was a lad in his thirteenth year, his parents, James and Jane (Hunter) Robison, removed to Crawford County, Ohio, where they settled and resided until their deaths. His father was an energetic, thorough-going farmer, and was one of the most valuable citizens of Adams County. David M. was brought up on a farm to habits of industry by his father, and remained at home until he was in his twenty-third year, helping to carry on the farm, for his mother was then a widow, the father having died in 1840. Meanwhile, however, he had paid his court to a young lady of the vicinity, Miss Anna Baum, a daughter of Peter Baum, formerly of Pennsylvania, and had won her heart. They were engaged to be married, but when the happy day came around young Robison found himself without a penny either to procure the marriage license or compensate the minister for performing the ceremony, but amor omnia vincet — he was not to be out done. He promptly borrowed a few dollars for these necessary expenses, and the marriage knot was duly tied. Turning his face bravely to the duties and responsibilities of life, he went to work to establish himself and his incipient family with a comfortable home. Continuing farming in Ohio, he resided there for over 20 years, after which, in 1865, he came to Missouri. Here he bought land which was partly improved, on which he settled and resumed farming. He also added to and bettered the improvements on his farm, erecting new buildings, making new fences, etc., until he now has one of the best farms in this part of the county. His place contains nearly 400 acres, all of which but about 50 acres are under fence. Mr. Robison raises stock to a considerable extent, and makes a specialty of handling fine cattle. He is now worth not less, probably, than $15,000, a gratifying showing for one who to borrow the money to get married on when he started out in life. It serves to show what courage and industry and good management can accomplish. He wasted no money in fine engagement rings, or hired-buggy drives, when he was young, and has wasted none since. Notwithstanding, he secured a wife worth all the rings and buggy drives in the world to him. They have been blessed with six children: Oliver, Elvira, Sylvester, Jeanette, Charles and Orinda. History of Monroe and Shelby Counties, Missouri; St. Louis: National Historical Company, 1884, Pages 945 and 946 Golden Anniversary May 20, 1894, will be a day long to be remembered by the children and grandchildren of D. M. and A. B. Robison, who met at the parents on the above date to celebrate their 50th anniversary. The children, six in number, were all present with one exception, Charley, who lives in Colorado. The family are all alive, all the children being married. Death is a stranger yet. The grandchildren all told number 15, five being absent. To the surprise of all Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Gwynn of Shelbina came to our rescue in time to enjoy the all important part of the event. Sister Mary Mewes, who lives with the dear old sainted father and mother, also enjoyed the day with us. Dinner being announced, we were willingly consented to occupy the dining room for a short time, with the exception of O. P. who was inclined to remain. To say that the turkey and other delicacies were enjoyed by all is not sufficient words to express it. After an hour or two of rest from labor, we had some excellent music. Being so grateful to our Heavenly Father for past favors shown us, we thought it right and proper to ask his blessing on us at this time. After reading the 15th chapter of Luke we humbly knelt in prayer. Then showers of blessings fell on us. After rising to our seats and when the mist had cleared away, we sang, "Oh, happy day that fixed my choice." Our heartiest desire is that father and mother may live many, many days yet to help us to share the glories of this world. More especially do we desire that when death shall separate us here, we may meet over there where there will be a continual anniversary and where we will never say good-bye. A Good Citizen Gone David M. Robison died at the home of his daughter Mrs. William McMaster near this city on Wednesday, December 28, 1904, at 2:30 p.m., aged 83 years, 1 month and 27 days. He has been on a steady decline for several weeks and while he suffered no pain he never seemed to think that he would recover after he was taken down. He was born in Pennsylvania, November 1, 1821, and when he was 10 years of age his parents moved to Ohio. He became a resident of Missouri in 1865 and has been a resident of this county for 39 years. He was married to Anna Baum May 20, 1844, and leaves surviving him 6 children, Oliver P. Robison, S. N. Robison, Mrs. W. H. McMaster, and Mrs. Orinda H. Hatcher, living in and near this city {Shelbyville, Missouri], and Mrs. E. S. (sic) Majors of Topeka, Kansas, and C. H. Robison of Colorado. As a citizen he stood in the highest esteem. He was honorable and upright in every detail of his life having the full confidence of all people. For many years he was considered one of our most prosperous farmers, but after the death of his esteemed wife, which occurred February 14, 1897, he being quite old, disposed of his farm and stock and has spent his last few years living with his children, all of whom were married. The funeral services were held at the M. E. church at 1 o'clock p.m. December 29, 1904, conducted by Rev. Benjamin Kuhler, assisted by Rev. J. J. Reed. The services were largely attended. His remains were laid to rest in the I.O.O.F. cemetery. In Memorial David M. Robison, died December 28, 1904, aged 83 years, 1 month and 27 days. It is not necessary to speak of his standing in the hearts of all who knew him. The number of old friends and acquaintances at the rendering of the last tribute it is possible to pay our loved one will answer for that. We cannot think him gone. We cannot think that ready helper, who has been so long among us, will no more lessen our troubles. We can so well remember the loving clasp of that weak hand, during his last illness, so unlike the strong, hearty grasp of former years. It seemed as if God rewarded this good life, by meting out to it the easiest death possible. No suffering, just a gradual weakening of the physical body, until death finally conquered, and the body, which is now dust, was forever separated from the glorious spirit, which unencumbered at once took its flight upward to a reunion with loved ones gone before and already among the host around the Almighty Father's throne. He was ready, even anxious to go. Feeling his lifework ended, he wished to be at rest. Yet not the least impatience, but always a willingness to await God's will. Knowing all this, we cannot wish him back. Much as we yearn for the companionship of our departed loved one, we would not call him back from that heavenly home, where we all hope to spend eternity in a grand reunion of God's people, to this earth with all its cares and strifes. So, in our poor, weak way we say "Goodbye" and try to remember God's promise of a home for all His people, where we shall again meet our father and grandfather, never to part again. --The will of D. M. Robison was admitted to Probate Friday and letters testamentary were granted to Oliver P. Robison and William H. McMaster as Executors. The estate amounts to $6,000.
