JOSEPH VAINREB CALLED TO HER REWARD Was the Mother of Five Small Children, Ranging in Age From 18 Months to 10 Years It often becomes the duty of a newspaper man to record a sad, and sorrowful death in the community and in our year and a half experience in the newspaper business one of the saddest deaths that it has fell to our lot to report occurred here last Friday afternoon, when Mrs. Joseph Vainreb the mother of five small children passed into her last long sleep. She had been ailing for a few weeks but not until a few short hours before her death was it apparent that the end was so near. The maiden name of the deceased was Anna Christina Stegge, a daughter of Mrs. Mary Stegge of Pocahontas. She was born on May 22nd, 1884 in Webster county, this state, and on Sunday last had she only lived the two days longer would have been 37 years of age. At the age of about one year, she came with her parents to Pocahontas county. She received her early education in the common schools of the county and later became a student of Sacred Heart convent school here in Pocahontas. On Oct. 5th, 1910 she was united in marriage to Joseph Vainreb and to this union were born five children, three girls and two boys, Mary, aged 10; Agnes age 8; Joseph, age 6; Clarence, age 4 and Anna age 18 months. The sadness which this death leaves in its wake is all the more acute from the fact of those five little motherless tots, who will never again have that dear privilege of gathering at their mother's knee at eventide when shadows begin to gather and the sombre curtain of night begins to shut out the light of day. While they will in all probability receive good care, yet there is none like unto a mother. None whose ear is so trained to catch the first faint whisper of distress or restlessness during the night hours and none so quickly to respond and so faithfully solicitous. When sickness comes the soothing caress and kiss of mother's lips will be missed, the arms that held her dear ones and tenderly rocked them back to sleep are stilled, yet, who dare to say that ours is a distorted imagination when we say that hovering about their little beds their mother will be in spirit, watching and guarding over them tenderly and affectionately. Besides the five children she leaves to mourn her loss a faithful and devoted husband, her sorrowing mother, one sister, Mrs. Harry Ernst and four brothers, Bernard J., Henry B., Frank W., and George F. The funeral was held Monday morning at nine o'clock to the Sacred Heart church where a Requiem Mass was offered by Father Wagener, after which the remains were laid tenderly to rest in Calvary Cemetery.
