Coulbourne The Honorable Anna E. Coulbourne, 83, of Rockville, Md and formerly of Crisfield, died Thursday, August 24, 2006 at George Washington University Hospital in Washington, D.C. Born in Crisfield September 1, 1922, she was the daughter of the late George R. Christy who died in 1934 and Helen Headley Christy Nielsen who died in 2005. She was a past member of the Immanuel United Methodist Church in Crisfield. Following graduation from Crisfield High School she served her country during WWII as a missile tail fin inspector in the former Charles D. Briddell Plant in Crisfield. She also was employed by the former Holsum Baking Co. in Crisfield as their business and account manager and later at the Marine Bank in Crisfield as a teller and account manager. After marrying her late husband Thomas W. Coulbourne on August 29, 1948, she joined the Asbury United Methodist Church and was an active member of the United Methodist Women. During their marriage she served as her husband's accountant for his distributorship with Sealtest Milk and his Baltimore Life Insurance Agency. In 1960 Mrs. Coulbourne became a charter member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Crisfield Elks Lodge # 1044. Following the death of her husband in 1992 she was appointed by Gov. William Donald Shaeffer to complete his term as Judge of the Orphans's Court for Somerset County. In 1994, and again in 1998 she was re-elected to that office and served that position until her retirement in 2000.During that time she was a member of the Maryland Association of Orphan's Court Judges and the National Association of Probate Judges. She resided at her family home on Tom Coulbourne Road until she relocated to Rockville, MD to be with her son following her retirement. Judge Coulbourne enjoyed many activities throughout her life, but being with her family and friends was always the most important to her. She was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Christy Nelson. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 30, 2006 at 1:00 P. M. at the Asbury United Methodist Church in Crisfield where friends may call one hour prior. The Rev. Rodney Stafford and the Rev. Steve Willing will officiate. Mrs. Coulbourne was a proud survivor of breast cancer and an avid supporter of the Susan B. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation and their annual Race for the Cure.
