The family would like to thank Silvercrest for their friendship and care during her years of residence. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, October 11, 2010, at St. Mathias Church, 215 W. Eighth Street. Burial will take place in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, October 10, 2010, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home, Muscatine, with a Rosary Prayer Service at 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Ss. Mary and Mathias Parish in Muscatine, to Our Lady of Victory in Davenport, or to Birthright. Anna Marie Palko was born on August 11, 1912, in Ridgewood, New York, to Stephen and Anna Prokop Palko. She joined the Naval Reserves in 1943 and was stationed in Ottumwa, Iowa, where she met her husband, John B. Schumacher. They were married on December 6, 1945, in Ridgewood, New York. In 1948, they moved to Muscatine, Iowa, and raised their family of four children. Anna was an active volunteer at St. Mathias Church, serving on the first Parish Council and as a Eucharistic Minister. She initiated the Eucharistic service program in the three local nursing homes. She was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society and Catholic Daughters of the Americas #524 and was a past Grand Regent. She also served as President of the Muscatine County Museum of Fine Arts and was active in the Republican Women of Muscatine. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Philip Schumacher and wife, Marie, of Bettendorf, Anne Dalton and husband, Robert, of Davenport, Clare Snyder and husband, Lowell, of Riverview, Fla., and her daughter-in-law, Phyllis Schumacher of Grandview, Iowa. She has 10 grandchildren, Amanda Henderson, Mary Anne Kessler, Andrew Schumacher, Katie Hammond, Amy Snyder, Robert Dalton, Elizabeth Sheahan, Rebecca Sieghartner, Anna Schumacher and John Schumacher. She has 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband John in 1986, and her son John in 1989, two sisters, and her parents. October 10, 2010 Quad City Times
