Anna Schroeder, the daughter of the late Henry and Mrs. Mary Schroeder, was born November 4, 1877, on a farm near Chelsea in Tama county. The family moved to Norway in Benton county when she was two years of age and two years later they moved to a farm near Pocahontas in Roosevelt township. The journey to Pocahontas was a strenuous trip for the pioneer family. Her father preceded his family to Pocahontas county to build a house and he had planned to meet them at Pomeroy when they arrived. Mrs. Schroeder had written him that they were coming, but he failed to receive the letter, so Mrs. Schroeder and their three children, including Mrs. Bartosh who was then four years old, walked most of the way over the prairie road from Pomeroy. She united in marriage Sept. 12, 1894, with W.J. Bartosh in SS. Peter’s and Paul’s church. They established their home on a farm 2-1/2 miles north of Pocahontas in Roosevelt township which has since been their home. Mr. and Mrs. Bartosh celebrated their golden wedding in September 1944. Mrs. Bartosh was an active member of SS. Peter’s and Paul’s parish, the Ladies’ Social Society and of the American Legion Auxiliary. She was a faithful wife and mother and a good neighbor, always willing to help others in time of need. Mrs. Bartosh had been a patient at the University hospital since April 6 and had previously been a patient at the Emmetsburg hospital. The deceased is survived by her husband, three sons, James W., Benj. G. and Henry F. Bartosh, all of Pocahontas, her mother, Mrs. Mary Schroeder, two sisters, Mrs. John Eral and Mrs. Chas. Dusing, four brothers, John A., Frank O. and William M. Schroeder, all of Pocahontas and Henry W. Schroeder of Eagle Grove, and six grandchildren. Her father, Henry Schroeder, died Nov. 2, 1902. Those from a distance attending the funeral included Henry Schroeder, Eagle Grove, Mrs. Everett Alvis, Sheldon; Mr. and Mrs. Will Eral, Hastings, Nebr., Mildred Dusing, Emmetsburg, and Mrs. Lloyd Brander of Storm Lake.
