Evers, aged 26 years, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Evers, of Judith, Mont., old-time residents of this section. She came to death by drowning in the Missouri near her home. She had been visiting at Box Elder, Mont., and was enroute to her home, accompanied by Byron Schwartz of that place. When they arrived at the Missouri they found that the ferry was disabled, but knowing that the ford at that point is easy, they feared nothing and drove in. a four-horse hay wagon preceded the buggy in which they were riding. About the center of the stream the leaders on the hay wagon got their feet in the lead bars and at once took fright and immediately became unmanageable. In the ensuing confusion the buggy was upset and Miss Evers and Mr. Schwartz were thrown into the current, which is quite swift a that point. Immediate help was not to be had and when the bodies were recovered, several minutes later, Miss Evers was dead and Mr. Schwartz showed but slight signs of life. Mr. Schwartz was resuscitated after some time and taken to Big Sandy. Miss Evers' body was forwarded to Denison, Iowa, her former home, for interment. Miss Evers had long been a resident of northern Montana and was well known and much admired. Her mother was visiting in South Dakota at the time of the sad occurrence.
