Funeral services will be held 10:30 Saturday morning, December 27, 2003 at the Scotch Grove Presbyterian Church with burial in the Wyoming Cemetery. She was preceded in death by her Parents, her husband, Emil, April 26, 1978, a son John in October of 1971, a son-in-law, Gene Hanken in April 1990, 2 Grandsons, 1 great-Grandson, a brother, Peter Petersen, and a sister Toni Hahn. Anni (Ann) Magdalena Petersen was born November 11, 1907 in Husum, Germany, the first born daughter of Johannes Moritz and Paulina Christina Conrad, Petersen. She was baptized on December 25, 1907 and confirmed her faith in the Husum Evangelical Lutheran Church, on March 18, 1923 after completion of her formal schooling. In November of 1923 along with her parents, her brother and 4 sisters left Germany for America. Following a 2 week voyage aboard the Mont Claire, the family arrived in New York Harbor on Ann's sixteenth birthday, November 11, 1923. The family then continued to Jones County, Iowa by train where they were met by relatives. Ann Petersen and Emil Paulsen met at a house dance in Onslow, Iowa. The couple was married on December 21, 1927 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. They began farming on the Paulsen homestead, and lived in Jones County their entire married lives. Ann became a naturalized citizen on April 1, 1940 at Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Ann was an active member of the Scotch Grove Presbyterian Church, United Presbyterian women, the Scotch Grove Community Club, a charter member of the Altrurian Federated Women's Club and several stitch groups. She was active in Jones County 4-H for over 25 years, both as a leader and as a County Committeewoman. She was Grandma Ann to so many more than her own grandchildren, and will be missed by many. Memorials may be directed to the Scotch Grove Presbyterian Church or the Jones Regional Medical Center, Anamosa.
