Description	:	Blanche Statz, a well loved, former educator of Nelson passed away at 80 years of age. Annie Blanche Statz, the daughter of Clarence and Zoe (Page) Farrand, was born on June 7, 1922 at Chester, South Dakota. She passed away on April 15, 2003 at her home in Nelson, Nebraska at the age of 80 years, 10 months and 8 days. Blanche was one of 5 children. Read More	Blanche Statz, a well loved, former educator of Nelson passed away at 80 years of age. Annie Blanche Statz, the daughter of Clarence and Zoe (Page) Farrand, was born on June 7, 1922 at Chester, South Dakota. She passed away on April 15, 2003 at her home in Nelson, Nebraska at the age of 80 years, 10 months and 8 days. Blanche was one of 5 children. She grew up and attended school at Chester, South Dakota and graduating from Superior High School. She furthered her education at Sioux Falls College and Kearney State College with a degree in education. On August 24, 1947 in Superior, Nebraska she was united in marriage to Raymund E. Statz. This union was blessed with 3 children. Blanche was honored for 28 years of service to Nelson Public Schools upon her retirement in 1987. She received a Service to Education Award in 1995-1996; the American Legion Meritorious Service Award as Outstanding Educator in 1980, the Nebraska Health Care Association Adult Volunteer of the Year Award in 2000. Blanche was a member of the Retired Teachers serving as President, Home Improvement Club, Library Board, Church Board, Church Circle, Good Samaritan dvisory Board the Rebbeka (sic) Lodge and a 56 year member of the Nelson Community United Church of Christ, she was a Sunday School Teacher serving as Superintendent. She tutored after she retired. Blanche did a lot of volunteer work in the community. She lived in the communities of Chester, South Dakota, Superior and Nelson, Nebraska. Preceding her in death, were her parents, her husband Raymund on April 6, 1990,1 brother Henry Farrand and a grandson Quentin Statz. Survivors include her son Paul and wife Mary, daughters Bette Wood all of Nelson, Nebraska and Pamela Fogle and husband Greg of Coucil Bluffs, Iowa; one sister Vivian Thompson of Pinellas Park, Florida, and 2 brothers, Clarence Farrand and wife Wanda of Harvard, Nebraska and Floyd Farrand and wife Ruby of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; 9 grandchildren, Stephan Statz, Nik Statz, Makenzie Grief, Amy Wood, Julie Wood, Staci Wood, Travis Musil, Sean Musil and Tess Musil; and 2 great-granddaughters, Lydia and Sonia Niemmen, nieces, nephews and other relatives and a host of friends. Funeral services were held on Monday, April 21, 2003 at 2:00 P.M. from the Nelson Community United Church of Christ in Nelson, Nebraska with Rev. Dr. Ralph Sturdy officiating. Music was "How Great Thou Art" and "In The Garden", with Ruth Watts as soloist and Carlita Price as organist. Pallbeares were Allen Meyer, Byron Meyer, Keith Meyer, Anthony Gerard II, Roger Biltoft and Royce Schott. Honorary Pallbearers were Arnold Essink, Patty Bergman, Jim and Jaynie Spirk, Connie Porter, Tom Murray, Gary and Kathy DeBoer, Wayne Gumaer, Evelyn Olson, Carma Tryon, Marion Sather, Florence Bargen and Dr. Oscar Mussman. Interment was in the Nelson Cemetery at Nelson, Nebraska. A memorial has been established in care of the family. Klawitter-Price Funeral Home of Nelson, NE was in charge of the arrangements.
