Description	:	Arlo M. Behrens, 83, of Beatrice died at the VA Medical Center in Omaha on Wednesday, June 11, 2014. He was born on March 1, 1931 to August and Bertha (Knabe) Behrens in Odell and was raised on a farm southeast of Odell. He graduated from Odell High School in 1950. He joined the United States Air Force in December of 1950, serving as a Staff Sergeant of the 776th Troop Carrier Squadron during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in September of 1954. Behrens, 83, of Beatrice died at the VA Medical Center in Omaha on Wednesday, June 11, 2014. He was born on March 1, 1931 to August and Bertha (Knabe) Behrens in Odell and was raised on a farm southeast of Odell. He graduated from Odell High School in 1950. He joined the United States Air Force in December of 1950, serving as a Staff Sergeant of the 776th Troop Carrier Squadron during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in September of 1954. He married Dorothy Kollekowski on October 19, 1970. In the early 1960's, he worked for the Chrysler Corporation in the parts division in North Lake, IL. After moving to Beatrice, he worked for Wallman Chrysler, and in 1965 he began an 18 year career in advertising at Beatrice Daily Sun becoming the advertising manager in 1976. During this time, he and his wife Dorothy also owned and operated the Odell Tavern from 1979 to 1983. He was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church of Beatrice. He was a life-long member of the Bitting-Norman Post #27 of the American Legion of Beatrice, serving as Post Commander in 1973, and serving on the Honor Guard. He was also employed by the American Legion for 26 years, many of those as Club Manager, retiring in 2010. Arlo loved Husker football, cold Budweiser, spending time with his family and friends, and he was a die-hard MOPAR fan. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy of Beatrice; three daughters, Chris Miller and husband Steve of Yuba City, CA, Deb Houseman and husband Bob, and Theresa Schramm all of Beatrice; four sons, Russ Behrens and wife Lisa, Brian Walters and wife Carla, Roger Behrens and special friend Natalie Hubbard, and Steve Behrens and wife Jeanette all of Beatrice; 21 grandchildren, Stephanie Meyerle and husband Mike, Shannon Schidler and husband Sean, Chad Houseman and wife Celeste, Kyle Behrens, Chelesy Walters and special friend Matt Fralin, Cody Walters, Cortney Walters, Paige Buss and Morgan Behrens all of Beatrice, Nick Parde and special friend Heather Bowhay, Tanner Parde and wife Anne, Matt Schramm, Mandi Schramm all of Odell, Kirk Houseman and special friend Kim Lears of Chesterfield, MO, Betsy Frerichs and husband Darin of Holmesville, Roxanne Miller and special friend Paul and Will Miller and special friend Lindsay of Portland, OR, Nicole Patterson and husband Kevin of Milford, KS, Malory Coward and husband Jason of Ewa Beach, HI, Austin Giroux and Kylee Behrens of Chapman, KS; 18 great-grandchildren; one brother, Orville Behrens and wife Liz of Lincoln; sister-in-law, Lee Behrens of Springfield, MO; two brothers-in-law, Leroy Outhet of Frankfort, KS and Carl Higgins of Billings, MT; cousins, Bernice Wieters and Harold Linkugel of Hanover, KS, Iola Ottersburg of Wymore and Lowell Behrens of Topeka, KS; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson, Ryan Schramm; an infant brother, Arnold; two brothers, Norman and Marvin Behrens; one sister, Leona Outhet. Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 16, 2014 at 10:30 A.M. at Holy Cross Lutheran Church with Rev. Dr. Delmar Wiemers officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Home Cemetery of Beatrice. A family prayer service will be held at 10:15 A.M. on Monday at the church. A memorial has been established to the family's choice. The body will lie in state at the Fox Funeral Home of Beatrice from 8:00 A.M. Saturday until 9:00 P.M. Sunday and at the church one hour preceding the services on Monday. The family will greet friends and relatives at the Fox Funeral Home on Sunday from 6:30 P.M. to 7:30 P.M. Military graveside honors will be conducted by Bitting-Norman Post #27 of the American Legion of Beatrice. Fox Funeral Home of Beatrice in charge of arrangements.
