Mr. Dalen died Friday, February 23, 1990 at the Trimont Community Hospital. Arnold John Dalen was born May 13, 1920 to Ingvald and Jeanette (Malmonger) Dalen at Lost Island in Palo Alto County. He attended rural Palo Alto County schools and after receiving his education worked as a mechanic in Emmetsburg before enlisting in the military. While stationed in England during World War II, he married Iris Elsie Rason on July 29, 1945 in London. After his discharge, the family moved to the Graettinger area and, in 1949, to Estherville. Arnie worked as a mechanic in the Estherville and Armstrong area for many years. He had been employed by the Estherville Creamery, Ray's Farm Store, Dalen's Implement, and Fagre Construction Company, all of Estherville. Iris died in January of 1972. Four years later Arnie married Annie Howard Linn on February 28, 1976 in Sioux Falls, S.D. Following their marriage, the couple moved to Superior. Poor health forced his retirement in October of 1988 and the couple then moved to rural Trimont, Minn. Arnie served in the U.S. Army in World War II from December, 1941 to October, 1945. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Trimont, VFW Post 3388 of Estherville and the National Rifle Association. Survivors include his wife Ann of Trimont, twelve children: Mike and David Dalen, both of Estherville, Mrs. Gary (Karen) Russell of Superior, Mrs. David (Cathy) Dean of rural Estherville, Thomas Linn of Wallingford, Conn., Gary Linn of Widefield, Colo., Kenneth Linn of Monroe, La., Duane Linn of Estherville, Randy Linn of Armstrong, Steve Linn of Goldfield, Mrs. Gloria Helmich of Trimont, Minn. and Kaylene Linn of Superior; five brothers: Leslie Dalen, Einer Dalen, Irven Dalen, Kenneth Dalen and Alvin Dalen, all of Estherville; two sisters: Mrs. Clara Rolfson of Graettinger and Mrs. Agnes Robinson of Silt, Colo.; forty-four grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Iris and twin sisters. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, February 26, 1990)
