He married Macie Ola Lovelace on December 19, 1925 in Gaffney, SC & they had 3 children--Thurman, Mary, & JoAnn. They were living on a cotton farm in Rutherford County, NC in the 1940's when the boll weevil made cotton farming unprofitable.
