Arthur must have been close to his adopted parents, because (according to the census) he was 31 years old and living with his parents in Chicago, Illinois. Arthur's adopted mother passed away in 1916 when he was 37 years old. Arthur's adopted father, Jerome, moved to South Dakota and remarried. The next year, on Arthur's WWI Draft card he lists Mrs DP Phillips in Tacoma, Washington, his sister, as his nearest relative. He stated he is living in Howard, Iowa and his permanent address is Le Roy, Minnesota. Arthur was visiting his sister Edith Myrtle (Allger)Phillips and her husband David Phillips in Tacoma, Washington at the time of his death. I'm wondering if he died from the Spanish flu. On Arthur's death certificate, it lists his name as Arthur William Branigan. His father is listed as JP Branigan and his mother is listed as Eunice Fry.
