That other Asa had funeral services here in Jefferson county in 1907 but was actually sent to Nebraska for burial. It appears from obituary information for the Asa Chilcott Sr. who died in 1907 that he had a nephew named Asa Chilcott, Jr., who was a pallbearer at the funeral. Whether or not the Asa Chilcott that is the subject of this memorial is that nephew is uncertain, though certainly possible. Apr. 12, 1929 Page 1 Col. 1 ASA CHILCOTT DIED HERE TODAY The Funeral Services Will Be Held Tomorrow Afternoon at 3 from Hoskins Asa Chilcott, a well known resident of Salina who with his wife has been spending the winter at the home of her brother, J. Horace Cummings, 304 West Adams Street, passed away this morning at 4 o'clock after a short illness. The funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at 3 oclock (sic) from the Hoskins funeral home in charge of Dr. Gilbert Voorhies and interment will be made in Evergreen cemetery (sic. actually buried in the adjacent, but separate, Old Fairfield City cemetery; the two cemeteries were often interchanged in references to these two cemeteries located in Fairfield, Iowa). Mr. Chilcott and wife, who was formerly Miss Laura Cummings, celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversry in this city Feb. 25. He was born in Jefferson County, Sept. 10, 1858 (sic. 1857 on headstone). ------------------- Married - 25 February 1879 - JEFFERSON COUNTY MARRIAGE Record #5046; to Laura Cummings (sic) Chilcott.
