He was born April 10, 1920, in Butte to Ashley C. and Mary Ruffle Leach. Ashley graduated from Butte High School in 1940. He was drafted into the Army in June 1942. He served in the Motor Transportation NCO with the 10th Field Hospital and participated in battles and campaigns in Sicily, Italy, France and Germany. He was honorably discharged in November 1945. Read More	From: Montana Standard, March 15, 2010 Ashley Clayton Leach, WW II Veteran and Butte native, died Saturday, March 13, 2010, in a local nursing home. He was born April 10, 1920, in Butte to Ashley C. and Mary Ruffle Leach. Ashley graduated from Butte High School in 1940. He was drafted into the Army in June 1942. He served in the Motor Transportation NCO with the 10th Field Hospital and participated in battles and campaigns in Sicily, Italy, France and Germany. He was honorably discharged in November 1945. He returned to Butte where he worked as a machinist. He retired from the city of Butte in 1976. Ash married Mary Fantini on May 8, 1954. Ash and Mary enjoyed traveling in their motor home throughout the United States and spending time fishing and camping in the Big Hole. For years they participated in the Good Sams Jamborees. Ashley was a member of the Butte Machinists Union, U.C.T., VFW, Good Sams and Aldersgate United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, step-son Stephen, mother-in-law Pauline Putzker and brother-in-law Peter Medvit. Survivors include his sister Marion Medvit, nieces Mary Kay Janson and Betty (Edward) Banderob of Butte; great-nephews Jim (Stacy) Janson, Lee Janson, Rollin (Theresa) Banderob, Victor (Laura) Banderob and Duane (Cristin) Banderob; great-nieces Mary Beth Janson, Gail Janson and Kathleen Janson; as well as nine great-great-nieces and nephews. Ashley supported many organizations which helped children and veterans. In lieu of flowers Ashley requested memorials be sent to charities such as the Intermountain Children's Home, veterans groups, Highlands Hospice or to a charity of the donor's choice. Visitation for Ashley will begin Tuesday afternoon at 4 o'clock in Wayrynen-Richards Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday morning at 11 o'clock in the funeral home with the Rev. Jim Heikes officiating. Interment will be in Mountain View Cemetery.
