His death occurred at the hospital in Sydney where he had been a patient the past week. Mr. Haughn was taken ill at sea while on board the motor vessel Clyde Valley, landed at North Sydney and removed to the hospital where an appendix operation was performed. Complications developed following the operation, causing his death. He was formerly of Middle LaHave, where he was born 63 years ago to the late Captain John Haughn and Lucretia Shankle Haughn. Following his marriage to Sadie Wentzell, of Riverport, he came to reside in this community, where he established his home and raised a son, Quenten, now of Halifax. His wife's death occurred nine years ago. Mr. Haughn followed the sea since the age of thirteen. He received his captain's papers some years ago but served as mate on the Clyde Valley, and taking charge on an occasional trip. Surviving besides his son are a baby grandson, John; a brother, Creighton in the United States; a sister, (Margaret) Mrs. Lawrence Mader, of Bridgewater; Doris, residing in Shelburne; and Nita, at Dayspring. Remains were brought to St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Rose Bay, where the funeral was held on Monday, conducted by Rev. L.L. Batdorf, pastor of that church. Interment was made in Shepherd's Hill Cemetery. The funeral of Aubrey Haughn was held from St. Matthew's Lutheran Church on Monday afternoon, October 26th. Service was conducted by Rev. L.L. Batdorf with St. Matthew's choir singing," Jesus, Saviour, Pilot Me" and "There is a Green Hill." Pall bearers were Paul Ritcey, Milton Gerhardt, Roy Creaser, and Arnold Ritcey.
