Description	:	Audrey Hart Winkler was born September 16, 1909 to Isaac T. and Clara Reese Hart in the small rural village of Pleasanton, NE and passed away June 7, 2005 in Las Cruces, New Mexico where she resided for the past 35 years. Audrey Winkler graduated from Pleasanton High School and received a BFA in Education from Kearney State College (UNK) and did further study at Wittenberg University, University of Minnesota and New Mexico State University. Read More	Audrey Hart Winkler was born September 16, 1909 to Isaac T. and Clara Reese Hart in the small rural village of Pleasanton, NE and passed away June 7, 2005 in Las Cruces, New Mexico where she resided for the past 35 years. Audrey Winkler graduated from Pleasanton High School and received a BFA in Education from Kearney State College (UNK) and did further study at Wittenberg University, University of Minnesota and New Mexico State University. Upon graduating from high school, she passed the exam required to teach. She taught Johnson rural school - the first county school two miles from Pleasanton where her mother and sister, Harriet, had taught. The school had 10 to 20 students at that time. She also taught high school music in Nebraska, Nevada, and Ohio. She married Wynn G. Winkler of Ravenna, NE in 1937, who was a mechanical and refrigeration engineer. She continued teaching piano and accompanying many young music students especially during her years in St. Paul, MN while her own children were growing up. She was church organist, dchoir director and choir member during these 20 years at Falcon Heights Congregational Church. Music and poetry were her life-long loves and after their retirement to Las Cruces, NM, she published three books of poetry. These books were collections of poems written throughout her life as she lived in Nebraska, Nevada, Ohio, Kentucky, Michigan, and Minnesota. She was active for more than fifty years in the American Association of University Women, including a President of this organization in Loas Cruces, and she cared deeply about furthering educational opportunities of women. Above all, she was a faithful, generous and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She was always ready to listen and counsel others as they dealt with the difficulties of life. She never gave up on those around her but persevered with them, sharing their trials and rejoicing over their accomplishments. She will be profoundly missed by family and friends.
