Description	:	Audrienne Alaire Swedlund, 94, of Stratford passed away on Sunday, January 10, 2021 at the Eastern Star Masonic Home in Boone. She had been a resident of Eastern Star since November of 2019. Audrienne was born on May 7, 1926 in Dedham, Iowa, the daughter of Aubrey and Ila (Pomeroy) King. She attended the Dodge #9 country school through 8th grade before graduating from Boone High School just after turning 16 years old. Read More	Audrienne Alaire Swedlund, 94, of Stratford passed away on Sunday, January 10, 2021 at the Eastern Star Masonic Home in Boone. She had been a resident of Eastern Star since November of 2019. Audrienne was born on May 7, 1926 in Dedham, Iowa, the daughter of Aubrey and Ila (Pomeroy) King. She attended the Dodge #9 country school through 8th grade before graduating from Boone High School just after turning 16 years old. After graduation, Audrienne attended Drake University in Des Moines, graduating in 1945. On April 12, 1945, Audrienne and Weldon Swedlund of Stratford eloped and were married in Mankato, MN, while Weldon was home on leave. She taught school in Ames until moving back to the farm in 1946, when Weldon returned from Japan. Audrienne was the secretary and bookkeeper for the family hog buying business in Stratford that they ran from 1959 until 1972, and continued in that role when the business moved to the Central Iowa Stockyards until the mid-1980s After retirement they traveled all around, including Sweden and Alaska. She was the "chief editor" for Weldon's weekly columns for the Stratford Courier, and his book, Stories from SwedeLand. She also wrote for the Courier for many years. Audrienne was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Calvary United Methodist Church in Stratford, American Legion Auxiliary, serving in the local, district, and state offices, including as State President from 1991 to 1992. She loved having coffee and conversations with friends, telling stories, and mailing cards to many folks for all occasions. She is preceded in death by her husband, Weldon (Swede) Swedlund; parents Aubrey and Ila King, and her brother, Marshall King. She is survived by her children: Alaire Willits; Neil (Linda) Swedlund; and Mark (Janice) Swedlund; her grandchildren: Kristine Bornholtz; Tim (Melanie Johnson) Bornholtz; Stephen (Ema) Bornholtz; Alison (John) Rihard; Lindsay (Erik) Wibholm; Derek (Bethany) Swedlund; and Haley (Malte Lierl) Swedlund; and her great-grandchildren: Christopher, Nicholas, and Stephanie Bornholtz; Julie Bornholtz; Kobe, Kale, and Kendall Rihard; Kayley, Jayden, and Emery Wibholm; Leyton, Brynn, and Grayson Swedlund; and Dominic Swedlund Lierl, and brother-in-law Dean (Harriet) Swedlund, sister-in-law Jean King, and many extended family and friends. A private family service will be held with burial at Oakwood Cemetery in Stratford. A community celebration will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed towards the American Legion of Iowa, and can be designated to the Past Presidents Scholarship, or the Legion Foundation, and can be sent to the American Legion of Iowa, 720 Lyon Street, Des Moines, IA 50309.
