He was one of the strong and stalwart men who helped to blaze out the path and make clear the way for the improvement, development, and favorable conditions which we of this generation now enjoy in Sherman county and this part of Nebraska. Born in Germany of German parents, he exemplified in his own life the industry, economy, honesty and courage that has made the German-American one of the strong and powerful factors in our national life. Coming to this county in the spring of 1879, August Beushausen was an important factor in helping to develope (sic) in every way the best interest of this county. He found it just as the Indian and the buffalo were receding and giving place to the homesteader and endured all the hardship and privation of pioneer life, building here his home and his habitation and with his wife and four sons always was a strong factor in the civic and social life of Sherman county. His mission in life seemed to do as best he could the duties that came to him voluntary and he filled well, and with much credit, offices in his school district, township and was for four years a member of the county board of supervisors of this county. Those who knew him best loved and admired him. That he was a good and true friend to others is testified by the large number of grief stricken friends who today mourn his loss. Our sympathy goes out, today, to the heartbroken wife who has traveled by his side so many years, sharing his joys and dividing his sorrows, always devoted to him and ever dear to him and many times in the life that will follow will she "Sigh for the touch of a vanished hand and the sound of a voice that is still." Our sympathies also go out to his four manly sons who survive them, who will sadly miss a father's love and companionship. We can only hope and pray that He who marks the sparrow's fall will heal the grief, bind up the broken hearts and help to bear their burden of grief and sorrow. August Beushausen was born in Hanover, Germany, March 5, 1840, moved to New York City while yet a young man, moved to Sherman county, Nebraska, in the spring of 1879 and located on a homestead five miles southwest of Ashton. In 1900 he moved to Ashton and in 1906 to Loup City. On October 6, 1869, he was married to Matilda Beck and to this union was born four sons, August of Steamboat, Colo., Julius of Leonora, Oklahoma, Emil of Provo, Utah, and Charles of Loup City. He served as a soldier in the Pruso-Austrian (sic) war . He was a member of Loup City Lodge No. 33 A. O. U. W. Died Sunday, June 14th, at 10 a. m., aged 74 years, 3 months and nine days. His aged wife, and four sons are left to mourn his departure. The funeral services were held from the Methodist church. All the sons were present except Julius of Leonora, Oklahoma.
