Read More	The following provided by Find A Grave contributor "Cara": The River Press, Fort Benton, Mont., 2 Sept 1959 August (Gus) Klay Died on Saturday August (Gus) Klay, a native of Chouteau county, passed away at the Deaconess hospital in Great Falls at 1 a.m. Saturday. He had been in poor health for the past two years, but only confined to the hospital for one week. Mr. Klay was well known to all of the old time residents of this county, as he had spent his entire life in this area, except for a the period when he served his country in World War I. August Klay was born May 30, 1891, at the old Teton station between this city and Loma. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Robert Klay, pioneer residents of the Shonkin mountain area. His father came up the Missouri river by steamboat and some time later settled in the Shonkin mountains, where all his sons remained and engaged in the cattle business and later in farming to some extent. Mr. Klay was united in marriage to Mary Prodger at Great Falls on Dec. 27, 1920, and they have resided on their ranch about two miles from the Shonkin bridge ever since that time. Mr. Klay always enjoyed working with cattle and devoted most of his time to the cattle business. He was a member of the Montana Stockmen's association and was well known among the members of that organization. As a young man he was employed on roundup work and at various ranches of stockmen. Mr. Klay was held in highest regard by all who knew him and it was always a pleasure to visit with him. His passing will be mourned by a large circle of friends throughout this county and northcentral Montana. Mr. Klay was an active member of the Fort Benton American Legion post and a member of the Baptist church. He is survived by his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Beatrice Draper, of Shonkin; four granddaughters; four brothers, David Klay, Great Falls, and Karl, Lawrence and Oscar Klay, all residing in the Shonkin area. Funeral services were held from the Benton Funeral Home chapel in this city on Tuesday afternoon at 4 o'clock. Graveside military services were held and burial was made in Riverside cemetery.
