| Description | : | August Henry Grote, son of J.Heinrich and Fredricka Hill Grote, was born in Hanover, Germany. He came to the U.S. in 1858 and lived in Davenport,Iowa. From there he enlisted in the Union Army, where he served for 3 years. In 1864 he married Rebecca Fry (1845-1934) born in Lehigh County Penn. She was the daughter of Edward and Pauline (Reinhardt) Fry. The Frys moved west in 1845, going by boat to Chicago and then by a team and wagon to Jackson Co.
