August Ficken A highly esteemed member of the Trinity Lutheran Church who has been connected with its weal and woe since the organization of that congregation, has entered the heavenly mansious by a blessed death, namely August Muchow, who departed this life last Saturday, April 12, at about 7:30 a.m. August Muchow was born in 1846 at Grosslieben, Province Bradenburg, Germany. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. At the age of twenty-one he came to the United States residing at Minonk, Woodford Co., Ill., for six years. In 1877 on the 15th day of April he was married to Gesine Lammers. In 1879 they moved to Hastings and a year later to Blue Hill, where they made their home ever since. The Lord blessed this union with sixteen children, who were all present at the day of the funeral. All children were baptized. Instructed , and confirmed in Trinity Lutheran Church of this place. In 1927, April 15, three years ago on the day of the funeral, Mr. and Mrs Muchow celebrated their golden wedding. Mr. Muchow for many years has been one of the elders of trinity congregation and also held the office of treasurer for some time. He is one of the pioneers of Trinity. Though feeble in late years and not always quite clear in his mind because of advanced age, he nevertheless at all times manifested a great love for his church and the kingdom of God. After several weeks of lingering the Lord called him into His Heavenly kingdom, Saturday of last week, April 12, between the hours of seven and eight o'clock in the forenoon. Besides the aged widow and sixteen children, also thirty grandchildren mourn his death, in the firm hope to be united with him in heaven. The duration of his sojourn in this world was eighty-three years, four months, and twelve days. The funeral was held, Tuesday, April 15 at 1:30 p.m. at the house of mourning, and at 2 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church. Words of firm hope were spoken by the pastor of Trinity on John 3. 36 "He that believeth on the Son, hath everlasting life," for the German service. The text for the English sermon was 2 Tim. 1, 12, " I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day." Songs of heavenly yearning and faith in the "Rock of Ages" were sung by a quartet. Now our sainted brother and father rests in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery until the Day of Resurrection of all flesh.
