The following members of the local camp of M.W.A. lodge were casket bearers: Peter Johnson, Henry Knuth, E.H. Barquist, J.P. Pomeroy, Martin Gabrielson and Alfred Soder. August Peterson was born in Harjunger, Westergotland, Sweden, on Oct. 17, 1858, and died in the Swedish Old Peoples home in Boone Sept. 19, 1942, at the ripe old age of 83 years, 11 months, 2 days. During his early manhood he came to this country and located here. A stone mason by trade he was in the earlier days of this community recognized as an expert stone cutter and setter at the time when native builders were used in foundations for buildings of all kinds. There are a good many homes and other large structures in this community which have sturdy foundations of his making. Later he engaged in cement work and some years ago purchased the farm south of town which he operated while still enjoying good health with the aid of his son. Some months ago he entered the home in Boone and there his remaining days were spent in quiet enjoyment. He was united in marriage to Anna L. Oslund, Oct. 26, 1893 and to this union a son, Emmet, was born. In 1902, they adopted a daughter, Alyce. Mrs. Peterson died during June of 1911. Those who survive are the son, Emmet, of this place, and the daughter, Mrs. Alyce Aikman, of Des Moines. There are three grandchildren and one great grandchild. One grandson, Kenneth Aikman, is located at Shepherd field, near Witchita Falls, Texas in ground aviation cadets training. August Peterson has lived a long and useful life and well deserves the rest that comes with peaceful sleep.
