At the time of her passing Mrs. Butt was 78 years, 5 months, and 27 days of age. Funeral services were held Monday, August 3, 1953 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with Rev. John Knippenberg officiating. Burial was in the Central City Cemetery. Mrs. John Knippenberg, soloist, sang "The Lord's Prayer" and "Asleep in Jesus", accompanied by organist, Richard Dankert. Pallbearers were Adolph Butt, Louis Butt, Max Butt, Richard Butt, Edgar Nickel and Lyal Nickel. The daughter of August and Hannah Dove [Dube] Burkhart, was born in Pommeray, Germany, February 3, 1875. She lived in her native country until she was 14 years of age, at which time the Burkhart family left Germany coming to the United States and settling in Saline County NE. As a child, Mrs. Butt was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church of Germany and through the church she received her early education and training. At the time of her passing she was a member of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Central City, and a member of the Ladies Aid of that same church. On October 24, 1893, she was married to August Butt in Saline County. Following their marriage they lived in Saline Count for 19 years. In 1912 they left Saline county and came to Merrick county making their residence in the Pierce Chapel community, where they have been permanent residents. Those of her family who survive her are three daughters, Mrs. Elsie Nickel, Mrs. Bertha Hake and Miss Hannah Butt all of Central City; four sons, Rynold, Helmet, Otto and Fritz Butt all of Central City; five brothers,four sisters, 21 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. She is preceded in passing by her husband and four children.
