Read More	AUGUSTUS WARD DEAD Venerable Citizen Expires At Crisfield Home Augustus Ward Sr, one of the oldest and most highly respected citizens of Somerset county, died at his home on upper Maryland Avenue, Crisfield, at 9 o'clock last Wednesday morning after a lingering illness. Death was due to the infirmities of age, Mr. Ward having passed his 84th milestone. The deceased was born near the present outskirts of Crisfield, not far from the spot where he resided at the time of his death. He was a son of the late Thomas and Betsy Ward. In early life he followed the occupation of a waterman, but 37 years ago estabished a store at Ward's Crossing and engaged in farming, which he continued until the time of his death. Mr. Ward was one of the oldest members of Immanuel M. E. Church, and was a consistent supporter of the church and its doctrines. In politics he was a Republican nationally, but he always refused public office, and exercised at all times a commendable independence in municipal and local political affairs. He was a man of sterling qualities, of the highest character, and enjoyed the esteem and respect of the entire community. Mr. Ward was married 65 years ago, to the daughter of the late L. Dow Lawson of this city. His wife preceded him in death 27 years ago. He leaves surviving him the following children: Mayor Chas. L Ward of Crisfield, Augustus B. Ward of New Orleans, Robt. D. Ward of Baltimore, Henry W. Ward of New York, Lorenzo D. and Thos. Ward of Crisfield; Mrs. John W. Evans and Miss Irene Ward, both of Crisfield; also two brothers, Sidney F. and John H. Ward; and one sister, Mrs. J. D. Evans, all of Crisfield. Funeral services over the remains were held from Immanuel M. E. Church yesterday (Friday) afternoon. conduced by the pastor, Rev. J. L. Johnson, assisted by Rev. F. K. McCorkle of Mariners M. P. Church. Interment was in Crisfield cemetery. The pall-bearers were five of his sons and his brother Sidney F. Ward. In the passing of Mr. Ward, Crisfield has lost a valuable citizen, and his death, though not unexpected because of the ripe old age that he had reached, brings a pang of genuine sorrow to the whole community.
