Roy will officiate and burial will be in Riverside cemetery. Mrs. Smith was born May 21, 1883, at Spirit Lake, Ia. She was married to Mr. Smith September 10, 1902, at Spirit Lake. Survivors include the widower, editor and publisher of the Akron Register-Tribune; a son, Gerald of Akron; two sisters. SMITH Dies Suddenly Of A Heart Attack Last Wednesday, June 15 A sudden heart attack resulted in the death of Mrs. Hay A. Smith a the County Home in Le Mars at about 6:00 o'clock Wednesday afternoon June 15, 1960. She had attended a birthday party given the middle of each month for patients whose an anniversary falls in each particular month, and she had appeared in usual health up to the moment of the final seizure. Her age was 77 years and 25 days. Aura May Phippin, was born May 21, 1883, at Spirit Lake, Iowa, eldest daughter of Fred F. and Rhoda Ellis Phippin, members of early pioneer settlers in that area. After graduation from Spirit Lake high school, she was united in marriage at her home there with Ray. A. Smith, of Akron, Iowa, on September 10, 1902, and they at once began homemaking in Akron. To this union one son, Gerald Frederick, was born on December 1, 1906. Mrs. Smith became a member of the Methodist church in Spirit Lake in early girlhood. She was a member of the Methodist Ladies' Aid in Akron, was a charter member of the Home Culture Study Club, and also held membership in Vesper Chapter, No. 61, Order of the Eastern Star. During Mrs. Smith's early years of residence here, her musical ability and pleasant personality won for her many lasting friendships. She was a devoted wife and mother and a helpful neighbor. Besides her husband, Ray, and son, Gerald, she is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Herman (Helen) Mapes, of Denver, Colo., and Mrs. Frank (Ruth) Bennett, of Le Mars; and one granddaughter, Miss Barbara Smith, of Sioux Falls, S. D. Funeral services were held Friday at 2:00 p. m. at the .Lewison Funeral Home, Rev. David J. Roy officiating. Pallbearers were Wm. E. Schoen, J. C. Kennedy, H A. Stryzewski, R. D. Clark, Luvern Swift and Donald J. Ross. Interment was in Riverside cemetery. Relatives attending the funeral from out-of-town were: Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bennett, of Le Mars; Mr. and Mrs. D. R.
