Murray Died Early Sunday This community was shocked and saddened Sunday when it was learned Barton H. Murray had passed away at his home in this city early Sunday morning at 5 a.m. after only a couple hours of illness. Death was due to heart trouble, with which he had been afflicted for the past couple years. Mr. Murray was well known throughout this section of Chouteau county as he conducted a plumbing shop here for many years and previous to the time he opened his own shop he was employed here as a plumber, working for the late Henry Hagen for several years. For several years he had his shop in a large building at his home and then constructed the building, which is now owned by the I.O.O.F. lodge, which he used as a plumbing shop and a portion for a pool hall and snack bar for some time. Barton enjoyed people and with his genial disposition made a host of friends throughout this territory who will be sorry to learn of his passing. He was a good workman and gave of his best on any job he undertook. He continued in the plumbing business until forced to give it up on account of his health. In recent months he had been employed by the Lett Plumbing and Heating Co. here in the heating and tinsmith department and it is thought that many times he might have overtaxed himself in the performance of his work. Mr. Murray had spent very nearly most of his life in the Fort Benton area. He was born at Belt, Mont., on Dec. 23, 1905, and a few years later his parents moved to the Ridge section where they homesteaded and farmed for several years, then moving to this city where the family grew up. He was united in marriage to Bessie Coughlin, of Portal, N. D., in this city on Sept. 5, 1928, and with the exception of a year or so spent at Kalispell, they have resided in this city. Besides his wife, he is survived by one son, Robert Murray, of Great Falls; a stepson, Bill; his father, Timothy Murray, of Great Falls; and the following brothers and sisters: William Murray of Fort Benton; Harold, Woodrow and George Murray, all of Idaho; Joe Murray, Salinas, Calif.; Cora Mae Moore, of Salinas; Nellie Haltzapple, Idaho; Irene Slack and Nettie Obstar, Great Falls; and Clarabelle Johhson, of Lewistown, besides other relatives and a host of friends. Requiem Mass was sung at the Catholic church Tuesday morning, the services being conducted by Rev. Fr. Bernard Geisen. Burial was made in the family plot at Riverside cemetery. The relatives have the sincere sympathy of all in their sudden bereavement and in his death Fort Benton has lost a lasting and true friend and businessman.
