Son of former Gage County Sheriff Ben Alvin Goble, Sr. and Eva Corinne Goble (Jackson), he was born January 8, 1930 in Beatrice, Nebraska. Read More	Benjamin "Ben" A Goble Jr., age 91 died peacefully on Tuesday, October 26 in Lincoln after a brief illness. Son of former Gage County Sheriff Ben Alvin Goble, Sr. and Eva Corinne Goble (Jackson), he was born January 8, 1930 in Beatrice, Nebraska. The youngest of five siblings, Ben was preceded in death by his parents; by sisters Louise Knowles and Marcelline Muenster, and by brothers Bob Goble and Gene Goble. After graduating from Beatrice High, Goble enlisted in the Air Force and served in Korea and California during the Korean War. He returned to earn his Bachelor's degree at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln and then taught civics and coached football for several years in Grand Island. He left teaching to become an executive at National Investors Life Insurance, but his commitment to young people and criminal justice brought him to the Lincoln Police Department, where he worked in community relations and school outreach. In 1967, Goble married Cary (Claryce) Vyhnalek at Lincoln's Trinity Lutheran Church. Over the course of his career, he visited police departments around the country and across Europe to learn more about juvenile justice, and to share information about initiatives he helped to coordinate in Nebraska. In 1971, he started the School Resource Officer program, which used federal grant money to train officers in crime prevention and place them in local schools to build better relationships between law enforcement, teachers, students, and parents. Goble liked to joke that since he spent his childhood "living in a jail" while his dad was sheriff, his dedication to helping other kids stay out of trouble started early. In 1977, Goble and his wife left Lincoln and spent the next thirteen years in Chadron, Nebraska where they owned a small motel and raised their son, Mark. When Goble retired in 1990, he and Cary returned to Lincoln where they enjoyed spending time with extended family and traveling around the country, the state, and to see friends in Austria and the Czech Republic. Goble is survived by his wife of 54 years, Cary Goble; his son, Mark Goble, daughter-in-law, Elisa Tamarkin, and granddaughter Edie Tamarkin Goble; and by many nieces and nephews in the area. A memorial service for Ben will be held Monday, November 1, 2021 at 10:00 AM at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, 6800 South 14th Street, Lincoln, Nebraska 68512.
