Mr. Lamb was born July 2, 1889, on the family ranch on the American Fork River near Two Dot, Montana Territory to Benjamin Franklin and Mary (Egan) Lamb. He attended school in Big Timber and graduated in 1908 from Big Timber High School. He graduated from Billings Polytechnic in 1911. He and his brothers Thomas, John and William helped their father, Ben, work the family cow operation near Laurel, Montana which supplied beef for the Lamb family meat market business in Laurel. The Lamb Meat Market was first market in Montana to use electric refrigeration. In 1917, Mr. Lamb married Helen Leffler. Into this union were born sons Lloyd and Franklin. Helen died in 1940. Mr. Lamb married Mary (O'Neill) Jensen in 1942. She died in 1982. Following his transfer by the N.P. Railroad from Helena, Mr. Lamb has been a resident of Butte since 1926. His railroad career included Railroad Agent positions at Laurel in 1912, and at Helena in 1913 and Butte in 1926. He also operated the family ranch near Whitehall where he enjoyed raising Hereford cattle and working his potato crop. He retired from the Northern Pacific Railroad in 1957 as the Butte City Freight and Passenger Agent. After his retirement from the railroad, he continued to operate the family ranch. He had a passion for cattle ranching and worked the family ranch near Whitehall, Montana until recently. He was an avid fly fisherman and loved to fly fish with his father, sons and grandsons on the Jefferson and Madison Rivers near the family ranch. A few years ago, he was photographed fly fishing on the Jefferson River by the "Montana Magazine" and that photograph and article were published by the magazine. Mr. Lamb was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church. He was a charter member of the Butte-Silver Bow Chapter of the American Association of Retired Persons, which honored him in 1980 for being the oldest member of the local group. He was a 40-year member of the Butte Elks Lodge, and a lifetime member of the Butte Camera Club. Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Lamb and Mr. and Mrs. Franklin Lamb, both of Helena; six grandchildren: Earl (Rosemary) Lamb of Billings, Mont., Frank of Libby, Mont., Frances of Seattle, Wash., Tony, Kathy and Art Lamb of Helena, Mont.; and two great-grandchildren: Josh Lamb of Libby, Mont., and Veronica Lamb of Billings, Mont. Wayrynen-Richards Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Montana Standard December 27, 1984 LAMB - Mr. Benjamin Earl Lamb, formerly of 940 S. Dakota St., passed away Monday in Helena. His remains are expected to arrive in Butte. Graveside funeral services will be conducted this (Thursday) afternoon at 2 o'clock in St. Patrick's Cemetery with the Reverend Father Patrick McGurk officiating. Memorials in memory of Mr. Lamb may be made to the Elks Bucks fund or a charity of the donor's choice.sent
