Black Hills Weekly (Deadwood, SD), Monday, March 10, 1930, page 1: BENJAMIN LANDIS DIES IN DEADWOOD HOSPITAL TODAY Benjamin Landis, 77, a resident of the Black Hills for the last 41 years, died this morning at St. Joseph's hospital in Deadwood. Mr. Landis made his home in Lead for many years prior to 15 years ago, when he moved to his ranch. He had made his farm his home since leaving here. Mr. Landis, during his residence here, was employed by the Homestake Mining Company. He is survived by nine children, all of whom were with him when the end came. He was a member of the Deadwood Odd Fellows lodge. Funeral services will be held here in charge of the Rev. A.G. Campbell of the local Methodist church, and interment will be made in the Municipal cemetery beside the last resting place of his wife, who preceded him in death some years ago. The day upon which the services will be held will be announced later, pending word from absent relatives. Deadwood Pioneer-Times, Tuesday, March 11, 1930, page 1: FUNERAL SERVICES FOR BENJAMIN LANDIS THURSDAY Funeral services for the late Benjamin Landis, former resident of Lead for many years whose death came in St. Joseph's hospital in Deadwood yesterday after a lengthy illness, will be held on Thursday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. from the Lead Methodist church. The pastor, the Rev. A.G. Campbell, will be in charge. Interment will be made in the Lead Municipal cemetery, beside the last resting place of Mr. Landis' wife. The I.O.O.F. lodge, of Deadwood, of which Mr. Landis was a member, will conduct the lodge's burial rites. The deceased was also a member of the Muscovita organization of the Odd Fellows.
