Read More	Married Jane Small 7 March 1868 OBITUARY:Benjamin Merrills Bogue was born April 14, 1842 near Rome, (Ashtabula Co.,) Ohio, and spent his youth on the farm where he was born. In 1866 he came to Nebraska where he met Jane Small, whom he married on March 7, 1868. He enlisted and was anxious to serve in the Civil War, but was unable to do so on account of failure to pass the physical examinations. With his wife he lived on a homestead near Mission Creek (Pawnee County) until 1880, when he moved seven miles southwest of Pawnee City (West Branch Precinct), where the family resided until 1910, when they moved to town, (Pawnee City) where they have since resided. There were seven children born to the union, two of whom died in infancy. They were William Jefferson, aged three, and Maude Mary, who lived sixteen months. There are five children living, E.E. Bogue of Phoenix, Ariz. and Mrs. R.A. Smith, Mrs. R.J. Turnbull, Mrs. P.A. Inglis. and Miss Jessie Bogue, all of Pawnee City. Mr. Bogue is also survived by one sister, Prudence Grover of Orwell, Ohio. Mr. Bogue was the youngest of 16 children. coming to Pawnee county at an early date, he experienced the hardships of pioneer life and also made many of those priceless friendships, such as are made in the circumstances which attend the life of a pioneer. He loved music, and in the early days, with singing, assisted Elder Turner in organizing Sunday School work. He was always a generous neighbor, and the doors of his home were ever open to the stranger. No moan applied for hospitality at his door in vain. He had a remarkable memory. It is said of him that he never forgot a kindness which anyone did for him. In his home he was a kind father, and loving husband. The forty-fourth wedding celebration was celebrated the seventh of this month. He passed away quickly after a severe attack of pneumonia. With his departure Pawnee loses another of that brave brand of early settlers to whom the county is so largely indebted. funeral services were held at the home Saturday afternoon March 11, at 2:30 and were conducted by Rev. C. Payne of the Presbyterian Church. Interment was made in the Pawnee City Cemetery. (from the Pawnee Republican, March 16, 1922)
