Soldier Dies in Texas Camp Remains of Young Bernard G. Huisman Returned Home For Burial Yesterday A message arrived at Miller Saturday announcing the death of Bernard Huisman, of this city at Camp Sam Houston, Texas, of pneumonia. He was 19 years of age, was an employee of the city light plant until last December, and was for a time a member of the city band. He enlisted as a private in the army, and was sent to the Texas training camp. His parents reside on a farm south of this city in Glendale twp. The family consists of father, mother, four brothers and four sisters. The remains of the young soldier arrived in Miller yesterday, accompanied by a brother and sister, who had gone to his sick bedside. Funeral services were conducted at the opera house by Revs. Tarleton and Salter, with music by a double quartette. Business houses were closed, and large crowd of city and county people assembled at the opera house to pay their respects to the soldier boy who died in his country’s service just the same as if he had died in the trenches. Among the numerous floral offerings was a wreath from the city officials. The remains were laid to rest in the G. A. R. cemetery.
